One-way round the world flight - is this possible?

Hi All,
I am in an unusual situation although by no means unique and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Myself and my other half are going to be migrating to Australia at the end of this year and want to see a lot of the world on the way round. We would like to look at flights such as:
LON > SYD > Asia (travel around unset destinations as yet) > USA (Either coast is fine then travel independantly) > SYD (ending in Sydney)
I realise this is unusual as we will need to start in London and end in Sydney, also we need the first stop to be in Sydney before flying around the world. We did look at round the world starting in Sydney but the appear expensive.
Is this something anyone has tried before? I would be interested in anyone being able to point me in the direction of agents who might be able to deal with this. Is there anything I need to be aware of with this?
Cheers,
garthus

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com:hello:0 -
Unless you start from Oz, there's no way you can get a RTW ticket. What you can get are Grand Circle tickets whioch would allow you to do a loop around the Pacific and have offshoots to other places0

I dont know if this is any use to you, but recently I did some onboard promo for the Virgin round the world ticket fares.
heres the link to the info and it also includes partner sharing with Air New Zealand and singapore airlines

AI am a Travel AgentMy company’s ABTA number is V2043. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.
I am also Cabin Crew, my posts are my own and not that of the airline or other company0 -
Forgive me if my info is a little out of date but it's been a few years since I sold RTW tickets.
Most RTW tickets are mileage based - i.e. you have 28,000 miles for the World Discovery (and limited stopovers), which goes for most tickets. Your routing as you go back on yourself considerably is not possible for most ticket.
There used to be one RTW ticket - One World (using, unsurprisingly, One World carriers) that was based on continents as opposed to mileage, however, it was really complicated, and the most expensive rtw ticket.
Your route is not a one way rtw ticket, your first flight (LON - SYD) is. The 2nd sector (SYD - Asia) is a half the round the world one way ticket, and your 3rd
and 4th sectors (Asia - US - OZ) just don't fit in at all. Get a globe and plot your route, and you'll see how logical it is.
Now, if you have to go this route, you will pay a lot of money. That's how it is, and you have to accept it. I think your best option would be to get a return on a SE Asia Carrier to Oz (or BA / Qantas / Virgin) so fly UK - SYD, and then back to Asia, and throw away your final segment (so you've used 3/4 of your segments).
Then investigate local carriers for your other sectors i.e. Thai or Malaysian for a one way flight to the US (might be very expensive, might not - remember that for example, Bangkok to LA, probably the closest American port is a 16 hour non stop flight). And then Virgin Blue back to Oz.
I suspect you'll end up changing your route though.0 -

They still do, I booked one for a colleague recently, a 3 continent C-RTW. IIRC the only rule was that you couldn't go backwards?
I agree, the OP would be best off planning a route though.0 -
I think you're right Old Motters, or possibly limited by the number of flights within a region?
Anyway, the OP should give these guys a call - http://www.roundtheworldflights.com/ I know a couple of people that used to work for them and they are very uptodate on all the options, after all it's pretty much all they do.0 -
Thanks for all the assistance guys - I realise I am in a frustrating situation. I would love to change my route but need to start in London and end in Sydney.
I am thinking it might be best to get a one way to Sydney then round the world from there.
Thanks for the link - I will give the company a call and see what i can get.
