Royal mail only dispute claims if they can prove the item was delivered which means they and you have the tracking info, which means you can submit it to paypal.

I know what your saying but many people cant have an extra 0.75p added to the cost of postage or afford to pay for it themselves.

I often wonder how many items do go/are said to have gone missing. For me i actually think its quite alot but when i look back its actually less than one per 200 items sold, not taking into account things that have been returned cause the buyers not collected it, which is not too bad but i dont sell very high risk items.

I wonder if one of the board guides could put up a poll so we could individually log how many items per 100 goes missing, i would be interested to see what the outcome would be.

I'm currently running at about 1 in 500 items lost and I send everything under £39 standard mail, no tracking, for the past 3 months or so around 30% of my sales have been overseas. My work items that I am required to use recorded for is currently running at about 50% tracked (it goes up and down like a yo yo) In october 2008 not one single item sent recorded ever showed as delivered.

We've had about 5 in about a year (3 months professionally). Not at all common, and not worth the extra money for a service that may or may not help anyway.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Quick update, I have just found the buyer has listed the item that they have claimed not to have received for sale. Am I livid or what. I've raised a complaint on paypal and am now in the process of reporting this person to Ebay...What a cheek I say!

Since entering the RD numbers into paypal when bagging up I've reduced my claims for non delivery to zero.

Paypal generates an email to buyers with the tracking details. This cetainly acts as a deterrent to scammers.

just had an email to say that an item I posted 9 days ago has not arrived at destination . I will chalk it up to experience but could someone explain
    s l o w l y how the above works?

I wouldn't. I'd get a relative, preferably with a different surname, to do it. Then you can guess the rest.
