Getting a spare key for Ford Ka
Options
Anyone know how to go about this. I was supplied with two keys but I seem to have misplaced the 2nd which is somewhat annoying. I'm fairly sure it's in my house somewhere but stuff has a habit of going into a black hole!
Is there a cheap and simple way to get another replacement key made?
My car is a bog standard Ka from 2004. No central locking or alarm so the keys are simply the key and plastic to clip to keyring!
I've read a few articles where people talk about fobs and chips and programming stuff and all sorts but would this apply to my car or are people talking about central locking or cars with alarms in that instance?
I suspect if I go to my local ford dealer where I bought the car they'll not be slow to get the arm in and charge a fortune.

Yes it applies to your car as the car has a cat 2 immobiliser as standard. If you don't have both keys then I think it's a trip to Ford0

Damn
Guess i'll have to really have a hunt for the key. I'm sure it'll turn up.0 -
Remember to declare the immobiliser on renewal of your insurance though0

Let me know how you get on. I have lost my Ford Ka keys this week. Ford want £190.00 to replace with a spare. Told them i would look elsewhere first0

This is a really easy solution. My daughter lost one key for her 2002 KA. Its just a key with no remote etc.
1. Get a replacement cut at a standard key cutting establishment using the spare.
2. Remove the steering column shroud - really easy - just five screws.
3. There is a plastic device that has a loop that goes around the chrome ignition key hole (cant see this until you remove the shroud.) This is what reads the immobiliser signal in the Ford key fob.
4. Remove one screw and lift it free - don't detach the wires.
5. Tape the one original ford key (which contains the immobiliser chip) onto this item, with the plastic end of the key ontop of the loop. It sounds complicated, but its dead easy when in front of you.
6. Tuck this back up into the steering column and replace the shroud.
7. Now when you insert the new key with no immobiliser chip the car will start, as the old original key is de-activating the immobiliser and now lives inside the steering column.
Its that simple!! No ford dealer and no big bills.
I would say though that you may need to further "soften" the new key with some wet and dry. I say this as my new keys were perfectly cut, but felt sharper as they were brand new cuts. They wouldnt operate the locks until I did this.0 -

It wasnt advice. Just a possible solution.
We all have a choice. Mine is not to waste money AND to make my own mind up.
In any case McJordi, what would you know about my insurance terms.
Exactly - diddly!0
