Remember to declare the immobiliser on renewal of your insurance though
With a lot of insurers this isn't necessary as they know what is standard on the car and it is automatically included in the insurance quote.jeffandjimsdad wrote: »5. Tape the one original ford key (which contains the immobiliser chip) onto this item, with the plastic end of the key ontop of the loop. It sounds complicated, but its dead easy when in front of you.
And now you have modified the car to disable the factory fitted immobiliser, so you should tell the insurance company, so they can amend the premium.
Obviously you may decide not to, but if the car was ever stolen, then you can bet the modification would come to light. As the modification directly relates to the claim, I would not be surprised if the insurance company declined to pay out.jeffandjimsdad wrote: »It wasnt advice. Just a possible solution.
We all have a choice. Mine is not to waste money AND to make my own mind up.
But suggesting a course of action without mentioning the downside, even if unlikely, is not very responsible.0 -

In any case McJordi, what would you know about my insurance terms.
Exactly - diddly!

We have a Fiat, not a Ford, but we were able to get Timpsons to clone a key for us. I think it cost about £30 and it works perfectly.
It's worth asking, and they said if the key didn't work they would give us a refund.0 -
I bought a second hand Ford Ka last week and it came with only one key.Needing a second key which would also allow the car to be started i enquired at my local security shop and they quoted £65. I went to my local market this morning and the guy who has a mobile key cutting service quoted £35.This took 5 mins and works perfectly. A cheap job if i ever need it.0

Well unless you informed them that your car is no longer immobilised and paid the extra premium then you run the risk of invalidating your insurance, even if you where in an accident and this little mod was spotted by the loss adjuster, guess what, insurance invalid.
The fact that you have posted the info' on here infers that it is advise, as the poster asked for advise.
You won't be the last to do that mod, but it is normally used when the original key has worn out and the old fob is taped to the new non chip key.
But most locksmiths/motorfactors can copy the info' from one chip to another as posted by an earlier poster.0 -

I assume you never lost the red key, as without the red key you need a new ECU. As the red key is the master key, make sure you keep it safe, as when you trade in no trader will touch it unless he knocks the price of an ECU off the trade in.0 -
Managed to get A local Shoecare/keycutter to clone one for £30 and Timpsons wanted £75. Dealers wanted about £80 in our area. I'd ring around the local shoe repair and keycutting places to see if they have the equipment to do it, you may fine even better prices.0

I think your info is about 5 years out of date all fords can now be reprogrammed even if all keys are lost.0 -

That was in reply to the post that I had quoted, they have a Fiat.0
