Hi, I just bought a pink v3 today from carphone warehouse on payg but when I've put my new sim card in it says enter subsidy password. I've done a few guesses but I'm scared in case I lock my phone.

What network? Does it need to be registered with the network?

The phone is locked to a network, check with the store that they've given you the correct handset for your prepay package.

Did CPW put in a note with the sim saying that they had changed your pin to **** or similar upon activation?

They sometimes do this to register / switch on your phone before delivery as a security measure.

it is asking for a network unlock code(subsidy code) not pin code (unlock code).

The salesman said that all the phones were unlocked so it didnt matter what network I chose they would just put the relevant sim card pack in the box. I bought the phone on orange because it was the cheapest and I have a bn o2 sim card already waiting to be used - otherwise I would have bought the phone on the o2 network.
I've tried a tmobile sim card and it works so I think they must have given me the wrong phone for the orange network - even though he said they were all unlocked so it made no difference!!

cpw phones are usually sim free (so unlocked), take it back and tell them, as you cant use it on the n/w it was sold on they should replace it - hopefuly for an unlocked done

The salesmen don't always know what they are talking about!

As the phone was supplied for use on Orange PAYG, have you tried registering the phone with them, even if you then want to use another operators SIM in it. This is because Orange sometimes put a transit bar on their phones, which is only removed by them when you ring up to register the SIM with the handset. I have come across this twice recently with Orange PAYG handsets that friends have bought.

    ;)

CPW do sell locked Motorola V3 Pink phones ... but the system will only let them be sold on Tmob (and Virgin, Fresh) so although its unlikely, he could have given you one of those phones.

Take it back and if thats the case they'll just switch it.

I can't get into the phone to register because a soon as I put the orange sim in it says enter subsidy password.

It does sound like the salesman did not sell you what you asked for, so you will have to go back and have a moan!
