Christmas Eve bargains

Options
Hi,

I work for a large supermarket and on Christmas Eve afternoon there will be loads of cheap fresh food as supermarkets always over order and there will be a lot to get rid of as most stores are closed boxing day as well as xmas day.

You probably know all this anyway!!!
You can't con an honest man!

The problem is - what if you wait till Christmas Eve and they don't have the turkey?

Plus I'm working all day. :( One of the few jobs I've ever had where we don't knock off at lunchtime.

PLUS pick your supermarket: try to work out in advance which will NOT have a completely gridlocked carpark and approach roads by 9 am.

but it's a good tip as we all rush around madly this weekend!

    Enjoy your well earned break.

I happened upon a chiller cabinet full of stuff in Asda a couple of years ago on Xmas Eve that 3 staff were filling as quickly as they could and which was flying off the shelf just as quickly - everything reduced to 10p.

It was like a jumble sale on pension day ::) Good fun though ;D

Do enjoy your break - I feel quite sorry for shop staff this time of year, they all look so harrassed. Delivery drivers, delivering to work, too this week have all looked as if they didn't know whether they were coming or going :(
  • I won't be ble to get there this year :'( but in Tesco's ;D last year they were selling off hampers (much better than Boots btw) at 50% off.

Alcopops, vodka gift sets, all Christmassy stuff - there was loads of the stuff to be had. And no rush as such.

The only problem people had was carrying it :o

    ;)

And Safeways for cheap joints of beef etc ... biq queue for those though.
  • Excellent tip but not something i fancy - sitting in traffic etc and trying to fight my way loads of folks just to get some cheap snap. I couldn't think of anything worse than people pushing and shoving and ruining my 'holidays' where I want to relax after working my knackers off for the past few weeks.
Perhaps they should put a notice on the doors - "We are re-opening again - don't panic buy - were only shut for 2 days!"

Going on Wednesday next week to avoid all the idiots later on in the week.

I've been doing this for years at a large Sainsburys near me, generally time it around 3.30 - 4pm, by then most people have had enough of shopping or are on route to visting/travelling etc, so it is always quiet (course maybe not be now!!!). You always get fantastic bargains that you can whack in the fridge for boxing day treats or the freezer for your New Years Eve party!!! It is a lottery to what you can get, but I think if you have Christmas dinner sorted, you can't go wrong! Happy Christmas! ;) ;D

2 years ago i went in to sainsburys to buy some foil and ended up getting 4 turkey crowns £2.50 ish each potatoes 1p a bag and loads more.
Went in last christmas to see if i could do it the same only to find out from a member of staff that they had ordered less that year and had sold out of turkeys not long after opening that morning.
So if you got it last year don't realy on it this year.

The last 2 years the Asda where I live have had empty shelves by midday on xmas eve. There has hardly been any customers in there only people wandering about trying to get a bargain. The clothing has often started to be reduced. But there is not much else left. There used to be loads of stuff reduced a few years ago but I think they have got their ordering better these days

The sainsbury's near me in the town centre, never has much - except lettuce when I go in. When I see the pre-packaged meals, they are still far too expensive for me to bother buying. I'm going to pop into waitrose instead, I remember that they halve the price of their turkey's from the morning.
