how are data charges calculated?

Afternoon all ,

I'm on O2 and have recently uprgraded , my upgrade includes the web bolt on but it doesn't kick in until june 11th and i'm dying to have a play on the internet but don't want to run up loads of charges.

Now according to the counter on my handset it says data sent 741KB and data received 10.2MB , now I thought poo i'm gonna be charged over 10mb at £3 a go! but i've hardly used any internet so couldn't really understand how on earth i've racked up 10mb!

Now on my online account with cpw , no data charges are pending on my account , so now i'm thinking is it the 'sent' data that i'm charged for and not the recieved? which would make more sense for how much i've used it.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks
Deb x

It should be chargeable on the total data, up and down.
You say you've 'hardly used' the internet, but every time you view a web page, that is data transfer; every time your antivirus updates or Windows Updates download, you're are using up that allowance.

You will be charged for both, and the counters should NOT be relied on for working out charges in your head. The CPW/O2 counters can be way behind, but come up to date to bite you in the !!!. Do not use it until June 11th. It will be expensive.

ok , thanks. I'll stay off it! on the cpw account it says the gprs charges are updated at midnight every night , i've not used the interent for 3 days now and it's still not updated! bit pants , i'm sure they do it on purpose so you can't keep track!
