The 'Money Saving' Game

I realised today that I have been playing a game with myself (aided and abbetted by all of you) over the last 3 weeks since discovering this site. It's called 'The Money Saving Game'. It's a game full of challenge, cunning and excitement. To be able to play you have to have determination, stamina and a sense of humour but once you've started to play you soon get drawn in to the excitement of the game.
It takes a month to get around the board, with hurdles every week that must be cleared (and you can't always see them coming). Sometimes you will fall over but other players will pick up up, dust you down and put you back on the board! The aim of the game is to defeat the demon called DEBT! You have to use all of your skills, guile and cunning to maximise the resources you have, get as much as you can for as low a cost as possible and get your overall score down to £0.00 while he's not looking.
I love this game --- it really is addictive. Do other players enjoy playing it as much as I do? Today I managed to shop for a family Mothers Day meal for 14, buy two Mothers Day presents, buy 6 Easter Eggs for the kids and OH, and do a weekly shop for 7 of us for just under £100 - within my budget!
And it's only a week until I pass Go and collect £250!!
..... Must have got too much fresh air today!!

I think you're right...
Although in my case money saving is becoming a bit of an obsession and my OH isn't too sure if it's a good or bad thingToday he was made to trawl around loads of places to get the best price for a 3-in-1 printer I wanted (needed, let's just say that buying a new printer only cost me £30 more than replacing th ink cartridges for my Dell printer... and the cost of future ink? £7 (instead of £20) and that is without shopping round for a better price
so it's a long term investment!) and in the end we ended up buying it in the first shop anyway
I'm addicted to playing the money saving game! :rotfl:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
Excellent and sooo true!
I think you should develop all the squares round the board and then sell the idea as a proper game. This could be a true money-spinner!
Pile of cards for 'Uh-oh the Post' (council tax increase, car tyre blown bill, etc) and one for 'Ooh Money Back' (bank charges refund, achieved £20 p/w Grocery Challenge collect £5 for savings, etc)
I've got something akin to Monopoly in my head now!Back on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180 -

what a good idead Ali-Ok!! (images of game) this would be even an excellent family game that would help kids with maths, teach them to budget and the importance of spending wisely..not to mention grown ups as well.
with extra points for getting discount vouchers to make purchases, using quidco and others!
And points for picking up a 0% cc, recieve special game tokens so you can ditch the ppi on your loan etc..
smashing idea..MFWB

Do you get £200 for passing go? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Glad you like the idea. I can visualise the board etc. The counters could be different coloured piggy banks!!
When you think about how much we learn just being part of this 'game' there are lots of things we can build in .... see you've got me going to production already Ali! Just going to e-mail Waddingtons! :rotfl:
We could have 'The Pit of Despair' that you have to cross each month and pay interest as a type of toll. Oh dear ..... getting a bit carried away now!!!! :rotfl:** Official DFW Nerd Club Member 009**

This is a seriously good idea with legs! If everyone can post what some of the squares and cards could be that would get us on a roll (pardon the pun
)
There was an article in the local paper months ago about a guy who regularly went to his local and produced a board game based around activities and people in the village - they now sell it and play it in the pub! I might go and hunt the website for the local rag and see what I can find.
Yes, a company like Waddingtons maybe interested.
Love the idea of different colour piggy banks Lewby!Back on the DFW Wagon:

Given the number of members on this site I think we could market it pretty well and call it 'Debt Free Wannabees - A Lesson in Life'. I think schools should buy it as part of their PSE curriculum!! :T** Official DFW Nerd Club Member 009**
