How can I stop a cat coming in my house?

Well I am the owner of a male neutered cat that to my great horror, breaks into people's houses and steals things. I am not just talking food.

I am talking goldfish (he brought a few home), loads of different tinsel (at xmas time obviously), pieces of puzzle, napkins, a small screwdriver, wrappers etc.

He has killed peoples pet birds, fish (pond and aquarium), attacks their cats/kittens...

He goes and sleeps on peoples beds, sofa's, under kids beds etc...

Now, most people round here, know him because he is so recognisable. He has no tail (this was amputated last year...don't ask...another story!).

He has a collar and tag on. I have tried to keep him locked in, but he will basically destroy the house and terrorise our other 2 cats.

He loves being outdoors but I don't know how to stop him from being an absolute pest to others.

I have so much sympathy for people that have to put up with someone elses cat that does this but as the owner of one of these beasts, I really don't know what I can do to stop him doing it.

    Hi onlyme ...
I thought my cat was unique, but yours just took things to another level! I was wondering if his behaviour changed when he had his tail amputated? I don't mean to sound a little mad, but my lovely furry one uses his to express himself ( as well as purrs and headbutts, etc) and I was wondering if this was some strange side-effect of losing his tail and part of his way of communicating??? I'm no Freud or animal psychologist, but I do once remember reading that a cat can express 9 different moods/behaviours through their tail.

If possible, shut the bedroom door so that cat cant get in there in the first place.

Then keep doors shut round the house so this stray cat can only get to where you have give him access to.

His behaviour has always been a bit unique compared to all other cats we have or had. We got him from the age of approx 10 weeks from our local RSPCA. He was thrown out a car on the motorway

He hasn't actually changed since his tail was removed but the vet did say he would have trouble jumping. Well they were very wrong. He clears a 6ft fence without touching the sides. He jumps from the floor on top of the doors etc.

The only time his behaviour changes is when the clocks change to summer time.

Every year, for the last 4 years (his age), when the clocks change to BST, within 2 days, we are at the vets...this year he has staples put in his paw as he cut one so badly and then he developed cysitus from the stress of being kept indoors.

He is 'fine' (well he will never be normal) during the winter months but he goes beyond fine/normal for him when summer time starts...

He has always copied our daughter in whatever game or activity she does, it starts off all fun but soon ends in tears.

The worst thing is that he loves being pushed around in a dolly's pushchair, which if he wants that activity, he will cry and cry till we push him round. Not very pleasant when you have to get up at 2AM to fulfil his needs :o

So to anyone that recognises him...I am truly sorry for his behaviour!

OMG He swiped a leg of lamb from my fridge yesterday! I will PM my bank details for a full refund! :rotfl:

PS He's almost as gorgeous as my nearly 3 year old tabby.

PPS I love the 'copycat' story with your daughter. Mine makes me laugh when he sits/rolls in the garden/grass/soil 8 hours a day and pops back in to use the litter tray! What are they like?

Grab the cat, take it upstairs and dump it in the bath - it'll never come back!
(Remember, cats are nice and fluffy, but under it all they are vicious manipulative nasty selfish things.)

With a name like prowla I assume you have feline instincts.

My cat loves all 'water features' including flushing toilets, running taps, filled/bubbly baths and best of all ... the shower. Perhaps he was a mermaid in one of his previous 8 lives. :D

Manipulative and selfish I'll grudgingly give you but vicious and nasty? You are out of your mind! Or a confirmed pooch-lover
