We're off to Lidl soon, havent shopped there for years, as the closest one is quite a distance away and we dont drive, but gonna give it a try, as the cats are being so fussy and someone mentioned on another thread that Lidl's petfood is good. Going in with a meal plan, but not a proper list, as it can be a bit frustrating when you shop at a different supermarket and you cant get all the old 'familiar' stuff. I'm hoping that shopping in a different store will inspire me to maybe serve some different meals,we're feeling a bit bored with the same old food. Wish me luck.

  • we don't have a lidl anywhere near here either. i think th enearest one is about 10 miles away, and i don't drive! so i resort to scouring the reduced to clear sections in tesco and buying dried pulses and value tinned tomatoes. oh how i love my bean stews and rice!

    Hi Newbie aboard!

I am going to try and sort my grocery bills out as they are wayyy too much.
Currently we spend anything from £100-£120 a week  for 2 adults and two under threes - both in nappies and 1 cat. I am in all day so we do lunches for me and 2 children as well.

So I am not setting myself a target as such this month just trying to make it better than £400 to £480 a month and see how I go !

    Month is starting today!

Hi and welcome abi113! I'm sure you will manage to do it - not so long ago I was spending (blush) near enough £400 for 2 adults only. I don't think we're scrimping at all and I have pretty well halved that amount. Still have wine and a few treats as well. Good luck and let us know how you manage.

Well I thought I was doing great with my April shopping challenge but Im not sure if I added it up wrong but I seem to have lost a week  I have spent £76.37 so far which doesnt look too bad but the £100 budget is to last till 9th May  I have checked all the food that I have in and I should be able to make it last till next Friday so all is not lost. I will then have £23.63 for just over 1 1/2 weeks shopping :o this is for 1 adult, 1 teenager, a dog and a rabbit. Wish me luck :rotfl:

Hi, welcome aboard. I'm coming to the end of my first month. I too have two under three. One wears nappies all the time and the other has one at night. So minus the cat we are in similar situations. I am including food, toiletries, nappies, cleaning products in my budget. Do you use own brand nappies? Boots own are now well under £4 for the smaller pack, they must have been reduced in the past week or two. Last time I got them they were dearer.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!

I'm rather amazed with myself today. I spent £28.48 at the weekend which brings my monthly total up to £90.53. This is taking into account that I spent a lot of money on a big Tesco online shop earlier in the month. However, OH did buy some groceries for me one weekend (would have been over budget if he didn't do this).

This means that I have saved another £10 which will go into my savings pot next month. What I'm going to spend my savings on I don't know, but I'm slowly generating a rather tidy little sum.

  • I think I will just make my budget this month! :p

I also had a bit of a storecupboard challenge and used a lot of freezer stuff thats been around a few months.

I dont have the time to do a detailed menu plan so I was just loosely calculating 7 carbs (rice, pasta, spuds) and 7 meats (pie, chops, mince) and 7 veg per week. I really helped and gave me the flexibility to cook according to the time I had and the mood I was in.

We had dinner in restaurant once this month - the early bird menu at local chinese.
We had takeaway twice - chippie and chinese
    We had lunch out once.
We had dinner at my mums 3 times
We had dinner at mum in laws once.

This is a big improvement as we usually eat out at least once a week and have takeaway at least twice a week

My target for next month will be £125 :T
