Chucky, as you've been talking about me on this other thread I'm going to reply to these comments too.

highlighting that post was perfectly ok - the poster (who's posts i do like as they're normally balanced) can't say one thing one week then say it's not ok the next. they may not have realised but they should be more careful what they post. it's called double standards. if you think they're ok - don't criticise a poster

So, back in March I linked to a lovemoney.com article I thought was interesting. Now in June I comment that lovemoney.com seems more lightweight than the Motley Fool and you take this as evidence of "double standards" and comment that I should be more careful what I post.

Doesn't this behaviour seem just a bit pointless to you?

Is it a crime to change your opinion or to be less than 100% consistent in your views?

I start to understand why people create sockpuppets, if every word they've said on this forum in the past is going to be pulled up and used against them by a group of thought police posters who seem less interested in having a genuine discussion than in mocking others for their views.

Would you prefer it if all those who think house prices are probably going to fall further just left the forum? Because I think it would be pretty boring here if everyone thought the same.

It just goes to prove that people are happy to use a source if it's telling them what they want to hear, then disregard it when it doesn't.

Yes exactly, I only pulled it up because it's becoming increasingly common for people to descredit sources that they've previously used as gospel.

the comments were quite complimentary and i still think that you're a balanced poster and make some very interesting points. my point was more highlighting Graham's inconsistency of defending you rather than you're changing your mind on something. maybe i shouldn't have used you as an example - but i didn't mention you by name though...

yes of course you can - but you can't just turnaround and rubbish the same publication because it doesn't suit your view now. but yes i take your point.

What newspaper do you read? Do you agree with every article they publish -- and with the point of view of every one of their journalists?

Thank you for your apology. No, you've not offended me, but I think you have more to contribute to this forum than rows of rolling smilies.

i read quite a diverse selection. in my view not just journalists or but i would say even talking to people; nobody ever is totally open with what they say, well very rarely. everybody is influenced or even prejudiced by life experiences and how they have interpreted these experiences or even lack of experiences.

so, no i don't always believe what the newspapers or media says because we are all different and interpret things in different ways. you have the benefit of having the US background where you have a combination of experiences.

this has gone way to deep for an internet forum!!

I agree with penguine that lovemoney appears to be an effort at "TMF lite". There's the occasional article worth reading, but there's a lot of crap there too (they're trying to do more of the 'bargain hunting' stuff that MSE does so much better). This is why they split lovemoney from the fool.co.uk.

The articles written for the fool/lovemoney are predominantly written by freelancers. The writers' vested interest can be spotted pretty easily most of the time. I don't think the editorial team force any particular point of view on their writers, they pretty much cover the whole gamut. Some articles on there you might agree with, others you might not. Just because I tend to agree with what one writer has written doesn't mean I'll agree with another. Just because one decent article is posted up per week doesn't mean it's not 90% lightweight throwaway rubbish on the site.

I'd be happy to link an article on lovemoney here. I'd also agree that lovemoney is a watered down offshoot of the motley fool. Not mutually exclusive.

Nationwide hardly gives out mortgages any more...so its unfair to base arguments on their evidence.

its far easier to base numbers on landregistry which tends to exclude auction values from the figures.

Quantities are down and so are values, long way to go till we reach the numbers seen over the last 5 years. And probably never see banks lending the way they did over the same period.

You will find more and more people saving, for deposits, and more sensible people buying in future. Supply and demand scenario has to take into account availability of finance now, this dictates house prices... unfortunately or fortunately which ever way you look at it!
    Plan
    1) Get most competitive Lifetime Mortgage (Done)
    2) Make healthy savings, spend wisely (Doing)
    3) Ensure healthy pension fund - (Doing)
    4) Ensure house is nice, suitable, safe, and located - (Done)
    5) Keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained (Done, Doing, Going to do)

I think by far the amjority of regulars would feel the same. So to expect to agree and disagree with articles from within the same sorce is not so ridiculous.

I enjoy watching QT and This Week, and am happy to refer to things from there, however I similarly accept that is is politics-lite and there is not an unbiased contributor to either. Doesn't mean I can't agree and disagree both: even with stuff said by one person!

My money was on end of summer 2009. Looks like I was a little late - price declines are definitely over.
