So my husband is trying to claim back bank charges froom Halifax under the financial hardship waiver. Halifax agreed we was in hardship, then told us to wait til the test case had finished!
So we have written to the FSO and have had the acknowledging letter. Just wondered if anybody had taken this route and how quickly the FSO dealt with the claims??
Thanks!

The FOS are taking around 18-24 months on normal complaints. However, hardship cases should be dealt with quicker.
Did Halifax actually confirm that you were being treated as a hardship case as being told to wait is what you would expect in a normal case and not a hardship case?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Yes they did both verbally and in writing!
Thanks - though hope it's quicker than that!0 -
You quoted this timescale before dunstonh and MSE Wendy had to correct you, Please do not use 18-24 months timescales without giving the source of this timescale. The FOS are taking around 18-24 months on normal complaints. However, hardship cases should be dealt with quicker.

The timescale is NOT 18 to 24 months.0 -

You tell that to all the people that are in the 18-24 month period.
12-18 months is more common but if the company appeal then 18-24 is more likely.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Last time you quoted this stuff, MSE Wendy had to correct me, would you like a link to that correction?0 -
Plenty of posts on the forum with people saying they have been waiting over 12 months. I have one complaint I put in for a client that is entering its second year without an adjudicator yet another at 8 months.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). BUT that is not all complaints and the comment based on 1 case doesn't help others. If you have read their annual report it quotes figures
"We resolved a third of all disputes within three months; and just under eight out
of ten cases within nine months."
That tallies with what MSE Wendy told you

So how does this equate to your initial advice that ''The FOS are taking around 18-24 months on normal complaints''?0 -
I didn't mean to cause an 'issue'!
But back to the question then - am I assuming there is no set time scale the FOS have to deal with the case in?0
