Sorry, their charges are completely different for some destinations.

18185's prices from a BT landline (using the 18185 prefix) are HERE.

18185's prices from a cable landline (using the 0808 1 703 703 access number) are HERE.

For most people, the important differences are:

To UK 01/02 numbers - those with cable landlines are charged 4p connection and 1p/minute whereas those with BT landlines are charged only the 4p connection.

Weekday calls to UK 077/078/079 numbers - those with cable landlines are charged 4p connection and 10p/minute whereas those with BT landlines are charged 4p connection and 5p/minute.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Wow - had missed those pages - cheers for that - oh god that complicates things :(

Kids get home from school and start hitting the phones - in past 1899 set to grab these but this will dramatically increase phone bill :(

Is there a way of setting orchid to ban calls until 6 ;)

She worries that kids won't be able to contact her in emergency but I suppose Orchid could add her mobile as allowed number??

God someone could make a fortune if they simplified all this :(

    ;) thanks - already seen that :)

I was meaning simplifying it when comparing NTL to BT as I need to - sure NTL deal looks good - until you then factor in doubling costs of mobile calls and - depending on length of call - massive increase in daytime calls (particularly as NTL free start an hour later than BT!) etc etc....

My mistake they are free 6pm - 8am
  • David Mee,
If you do get the NTL pack use the Phone Co-op for evening/weekend calls at 4.7p per call (not per minute). Then 1899 for daytime weekday calls. 18185 as suggested for mobiles.
...and then the window licker said to me...

    Their 'evenings' are 19:00 - 06:00 then?

I thought BT was taking the mickey when they changed to 18:00 - 06:00

Another good reason for using Primus if you've a BT line (theirs is 18:00 - 08:00).

    NTL - 6p connection charge.
BT - 5p* minimum call charge (i.e. it's not additional to the per minute charge).
    1899 - 3p connection charge.
    18185 - 4p connection charge.

    *5.5p from 1/4/06.

NTL evenings are 18:00 to 08:00

Looks like the offer in op might now be £30 not £33 see

But NTL include weekends in 3 for 30 and for another £3 you get evenings .... thats... 63 phone calls - and they average 130 so £3 extra better isn't it??

Yes - my mistake - however, 3for30 only offers free weekends NOT evenings and 512Mb broadband not 1mb (not as important but worth it for £3) ;)
