Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 1st June. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS chums!
Pinch Punch and all that!
JackieO - good luck with the mammogram
VickyA - what a terrible thing to happen, am glad you are OK.
Hermione - how is it going with the horrid boss?
Squiggly - hope the dissertation is going well, miss you.
PenPin - hope you are feeling better today.
Tru, Sybil, 3jays -
I am so so sorry to have been MIA. It's not been a good time. But I can't thank you all enough for the pms which I will reply to later today and for the mentions on the threads from so many of you! I would love to mention you all by name but am afraid of missing someone out and offending them as I have only read back a few but I am really humbled and even a little surprised that I was missed! Some of the things you have said have really touched me and I feel very loved right now. Thank you all again, you are an amazing group of people.
No, it hasn't been bad news about Tristan although he is getting a lot weaker now. He has mailed me twice about 10 days ago and both made me cry as he said such lovely things and they felt like he was saying 'goodbye', but I was really glad to hear from him.
On to the 12th day straight of sunshine which is fabulous. Just wish I could get out more, however yesterday I did manage to pick some more lettuce leaves for sandwiches out of my lil plastic greenhouse and planted out surfinias. Peppers, chillis, carrots, shallots and tomatoes are growing so well I am really pleased.
Oh I recieved some Kingsmill Wallace and Gromit vouchers through the post the other day with no note so I no idea who to thank for them, but thank you anyway.. they are getting harder to find now.
My OH has just left to for two days in France with his parents, hence my being up so early. I am not sleeping so well recently but have been reading a lot which has been nice. He put the bread maker on for me so in a few hours I will have some lovely fresh bread and I have last nights cottage pie (bulked out of course) to warm up for dinner.
So - I hope the week starts gently for you all. Thank you again to those who missed me, I appreciate all the good wishes. Warm gentle
for anyone who wants or needs one.

Morning all,
Diva, good to see you back again...sorry to hear you haven't been sleeping well.
Vicky A, glad you're ok after the accident.
Noah'sPM, that is a beautiful dress.
D&DD, it's lovely to see you back posting again.
Essex Girl, well done on the boot sale!
donny-gal, welcome back.
Aussie, hope you're not missing dd too much.
I spent all day yesterday in the garden so it's looking good! Cranky how are your cherries coming on? I have 19 tiny green plums. :j All this sun is doing wonders for the garden and the strawberries, chillis, tomatoes, blackcurrants and herbs are coming on really well. We're really enjoying the spicy salad, rocket and radishes but I can't wait until the cucumbers and tomatoes are ready so the whole salad will be homegrown.
Plans for today are to take my paperwork down to the office, give the house a swish and a swipe, spend some more time in the garden (with factor cream on this time), marinade some meat and make some nice salads for a barbeque tonight.
Off now to put the kettle on and make the lunches.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning.
Another sunny day in store. It was pretty warm yesterday and the lighter winds made the later afternoon BBQ perfect.
Going off to deliver applications and collect new ones. I hope this scatter gun approach works....
Need to do some weeding and build a few chicken runs as all the baby chicks are getting bigger.
I have to dispatch some ducks too as they are getting too big and messy and eating OH new plant. I hope some freecycler will take them and keep them somewhere
Uncle is going in for Chemo today and over the next few weeks. He is not looking forward to that very much, the alternative is worse I guess...
Well, have a nice day.... cheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Good Morning chums ,
up at the crack of dawn today as it was quite a warm night and couldn't sleep so decided to get up in the end .My youngest grandson Mikey's fifth birthday today. Can't believe he is five, where do the years fly by to.School run this morning with Mikey and his two brothers Jack and Henry .Henry is 8 on Wednesday, so its a busy week for birthdays. This afternoon I see my oncologist and this will be my first year of remission over.Wednesday is mammogram day fingers crossed.
Will pop into Aldi's afterwards this afternoon as their new offers start today. Also have some banking and shopping to do. Beautiful sunrise this morning, I was sitting looking out of my window, and saw it come up over the Medway river, the whole of the sky was alight, absolutely gorgeous, makes you glad to be alive. N9eav chemo is not as bad as you think,I had five months of it and found that although you get very tired, I coped o.k. Stay of the spicy food though it made me really sick. The nurses were brilliant and will give you anti-sickness stuff.Plus I found that Lucozade was great when I didn't fancy anything to eat
As you say the alternative is worse
Dinner at DD's tonight with birthday cake to follow.Right I'm off for a shower and hair wash, have a great day everyone
Cheers JackieO0 -
Morning all,
Well BBQ went very well yesterday- plenty left to finish off for tea
today though, and some stuff that didn't even get cooked!
Dh just gone off to work so enjoying some early morning quiet
before Dd gets up:D
2 of the dogs are asleep at my feet- why do dogs snore so loudly?
Got to get an appointment for Dd to see a nurse at the surgery as
the grazes she got from a roller blade party haven't healed even
after antiseptic and she can't stand plasters. Asda shop coming this
afternoon and 2 of the ds's will be in to help so thats ok-
Hope you all have a lovely day x0 -
Morning everyone.
JackieO - well done on your first year of remission. Hope mammogram goes well on Wednesday.
Diva - sorry things haven't been too good for you.
Off to find local paper website so I can submit an ad for my old tent. If it doesn't sell that way I shall try e-bay.
Had a late night last night (was MSE-ing) and just typical after a weekend of sleeping til 6am DD decided that 5.30am was a better time to start this morning. that will teach me to get to bed on time!
No major plans today. Toddler group this morning so no housework being done. Tea tonight is supposed to be sausage and lentil hotpot in SC. I think I have a portion already in freezer so might defrost that for H and I will have a cottage pie or something instead. For some reason I am not feeling very inspired by my meal plans at the mo.
Anyway off to put the kettle on and feed the kids. have a good day everyone, don't forget the sun cream.
PS. I checked my local weather for the week ahead. Friday is grey and cloudy and MAX temp is 9 degrees  Thats not even double figures....I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Good morning!
Diva Good to see you back you were missed xx
Pink We spent all day working in the garden too and didn't give a thought to sun cream so I've burned my shoulders & DH his back:eek:
Jackie Good luck for the mammogram xx
Halight Hope you enjoyed your weekend away
Another beautiful day here the washing will all be dry quickly again :T All the children are back to school/college so the dishwasher & WM will get a break after a weeks overwork :rotfl:
I'm going to a garden centre with my friend this afternoon although I will have no money to spend until Wednesday. Maybe not a bad thing as it'll stop any impulse buys. I planted some more lettuce seeds yesterday they really are easy to grow & sooooo tasty I'd reccommend growing them to anyone. I'm hoping to get some tomatoe plants too to grow in baskets by the back door. Thanks to Penelope Penguin for the idea :j
Omlette & carrot & chickpea salad for dinner this evening & beans on toast for those who don't want it. Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning :hello:
Good luck to all the children who are doing maths GCSE today and any doing chemistry IGCSE, I just hope the exam halls aren't too airless.
I'm going to look for some salady seeds today, I didn't fancy paying Makros prices  maybe I'll try Wilkinsons.
I've joined the flyladies in an attempt to get my house more organised, so I'm off for a quick whizz around the kitchen before school run.
