just to throw the spanner in the works, i recommend getting the domain name from 123-reg.co.uk for £6.88 (inc vat), then buy the hosting elsewhere (so if you have a problem with host you can easily direct the domain to a new host)
also don't sign up to email account with 123-reg as google offer the service free, via google apps you can set 50 email (i think) accounts using your domain name @ google mail e.g. sales @ mydomain.com would enable you to login to gmail with the aboveSilenced by the Gestapo :rotfl:0 -
The OP, hasn't come back yet?
I had a look at hydrahosts and it doesn't mention a SMTP server for sending email.
There's Nothing as tacky and off-putting as getting an email from a company with a .yahoo or a .googlemail email address. Really not a good impression.
As I've mentioned before in these forums, you tend to get included with US based hosts but it's an optional extra for most UK hosts.
Check with them before you purchase!0 -

I would definetly recommend www.1and1.co.uk, £2.99 per yr for the domain, domain is usually free if you want hosting too. They are very well known and if you get hosting you have alot of control over your site.
You get there free webmail but you can simply add the pop and smtp details to outlook and use this as your client. Upgrades are easy as and when you need to expand...0 -
I couldn't recommended 1and1 less, they screwed up a project of mine (I use lots of space and domains all the time), mis-sold a server, and then I took months to get a refund, having the threaten legal action as they refused to acknowledge it was there fault. There are many problems with 1and1 billing, it's fine if it all works, but when you come to leave or cancel, the problems start, Google it, many similar stories...0

Great point about Google apps, its really easy to set up and host your emails with them. Gmail is great too, plus you can link it in to the google calendar. As well as 50 email addresses you get 5 gig of space with each email address too, cant go wrong!
Have to agree with isofa again, i too have had problems with 1and1. Poor customer service!0
