The OP wouldnt be the first person on ebay to charge extra for posting to the far reaches of Scotland or Northern Ireland, I have never quite understood that.0 -

It is because couriers do charge extra, so for heavier things where sellers (usually the business sellers) have a courier priced up it could cost double to ship it outside of mainland central Britain.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes but Oban isn't the far reaches of Scotland is it! :j
This tread gave me a giggle :-)0 -
I think soolin nailed the reason why the op may have thought that royal mail would charge more for the post to Scotland as some couriers do charge extra for postage to the Scottish highlands and islands.
And to be fair, i have never heard of the town in question either.
But my advice to the op in future is if your in any doubt go to www.royalmail.com they have a postage calculator that will let you know if it is any more or not, and when it tells you the price it wont have a message with it implying you are stupid and asking if you went to school

Well said Cyril, the OP came with a genuine concern and need for help, some replies were not exactly in the spirit of MSE and certainly don't fulfil the criteria of being "nice to other members"0

I wasnt saying Oban is the far reaches of Scotland, I was saying that alot of ebayers charge extra for the Highlands or Northern Ireland even when its just being sent by normal post, some people even refuse to send to these places which I think is odd because I have never had a problem but all the more customers for me so im not complaining.0
