Lost or damaged on Insurance

Hi. I dropped my mobile and now it doesn't work properly, the screen is frozen and i can't unlock it.
I have insurance but was wondering what will happen. I assume i would have to send the phone away to be fixed (if it can be) but this could be a while and would mean i am without a phone in the mean time.
Has anyone ever been in the same position and said it was lost instead and got a new handset? I know this is dishonest and not something i would usually do but i really don't want to be without a phone for a few weeks, especially as i will be paying for the contract.
Any help?
I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)
