Hi Buffy, love the new plan, it sounds similar to mine (great minds think alike:D). Definitely a good idea to ignore the spreadsheets and constant sums and just concentrate on a month by month basis. I am doing that, meeting all my minimum payments, putting money in various pots for things and any overpayment on anything is a bonus.

I don't know my debt free date either, having a variable income does make it quite difficult. Your new plan means you are paying things off at a sensible pace and having a life at the same time. I really can't tell you the relief I felt when I decided, "Sod it, I will make all the minimum payments and anything else is a bonus but not necessary."

If you have been reading Single and in Debt, don't forget to give yourself a Buffy's Treats Budget.:D

Big hugs back:A I do think we have a very similar situation, ie similar levels of debt, variable income, etc and seem to have been struggling with this nonsense forever, therefore it makes perfect sense that we should hit on the same brilliant infallable (sp) plan at the same time.:D

I have also decided to post all my spending fro the next month so I can pinpoint where I can cut back, or others can pinpoint it for me.:D At the end of each month I will do a list of all the things i have done to improve my financial situation. I had a nice long list for the end of May despite not doing anything huge in one go, because every little baby step helps.

Remember, even if you do nothing else except meet all the minimum payments and don't add to your debt, you are going in the right direction. Everything else is a bonus. icon7.gif

    Hi Buffy

Glad to see you've got a strategy that you think will ease the pressure you put on yourself. It's kinda like taking a step back to see the big picture and not just focus on the one area you want to get rid of.

Not much point in spraying the garden with weedkiller if it kills all the flowers – but if you are only focussing on the weeds then you may not get the desired result at the end of the day.

It sounds like a much healthier approach you are taking.

Making time for yourself is important and something I don’t really do. Glad to see you are making yourself a priority among everything else you are working towards.

Do you also build up a cash reserve for unforeseen expenses? I do this so that if something comes along that I have forgotten about, I have funds available and then instead of making so many overpayments, just feed money back into that backup so that I always have a cushion to fall back on. Makes the money worries a little less manic so it's not on my mind all the time.

Love the title of your diary, may have to put the sound track on & sing while ironing!

sounds to me like you've got the right attitude to balance having a life while kicking the butt of the debt-monster

    best of luck
