Blue Badge for ADHD?????????????
Comments

First your friend needs to concentrate on getting DLA for her son as I believe you can only get a blue badge if you get DLA at top mobility rate?? (not sure about this). She needs to get anyone she can onside like docs, school, social workers etc and when filling forms in lay problems on thick! Does he need attention in the night? Well in my opinion 5am is the middle of the night! lol
I think best way is to either get a professional who is used to filling in forms or someone who is already getting DLA and who knows what is expected to help with application.Hit the snitch button!member #1 of the official warning clique.:j:D

Hi - I agree with zara33. Do NOT lay it on thick.
The DLA have levels of care that are expected for each condition and have guidence documents. Anything out of that norm will be looked at VERY closely
If you lay it on thick you are likely to receive nothing from the DLA as they will assume rightly so that you are exagerating.
Just be honest.
Justevi - I find your post insulting. People like my son need the DLA and blue badge because of his continous medical and physical need. - he CANNOT stand, let alone walk and has severe epilepsy and wakes in pain throughout the night.
5am is not the MIDDLE of the night - for many many children without disability it is a NORMAL waking time.
Blue Badges may be given by councils without higher rate DLA, but it depends on the criteria set by your particular council.
for Juliecallum, has your friend contacted your local adhd groups?, there is equipment for the car to stop him from reaching for the handbrake, and keeping things out of throwing reach? There is something called a crelling harness which stops children from escaping from the normal seatbelts.
I would suggest that your friend fills in a DLA form, but fills it in honestly - their local CAB should be able to help fill the form in - it is about the additional help they need to give compared to children of his age. they need to talk to their GP - there should be a local parent carers group that can give your friend support and information.0 -
I apologise if you find my post insulting, that certainly was not my intention. The 5am comment was just meant light hearted as I would have thought the 'lol' would have shown. I do still stand by what I said. I do believe that sometimes you do have to lay it on thick and give the worst case scenario. I am not saying you should lie! Having a child with special needs which aren't obvious to outsiders brings its own problems.
I am sorry about your son but those of us with children with syndromes/autism/aspergers etc which are not immediately apparent also need help. Trying to hang onto a strong 10yr old when getting in/out of a car when they decide they want to do the opposite is not easy, let alone trying to shop with them!
Each of these children have their own individual problems but that doesnt mean that one is any more deserving than the other.0 -
i have two sons with severe adhd, so i can understand the difficulties, both my sons get dla, but they do not qualify for a blue badge.enjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0

You may also be eligible for a badge if you are over two years old and either:
- have a permanent and substantial disability which means you cannot walk, or which makes walking very difficult
My daughter has Autism and SLD so different DS but if she didnt recieve DLA I would have written a letter giving examples of her needs. ie When out at the park when told its time to go she will go into a melt down, and I would find it extremely difficult to get her back in to the car ( having a child with difficulties who is taller and much stronger than your self this is very difficult). Being able to park in a blu bay means once in the car park we would be safe and not have to cross the car park with a child kicking bitting screaming and trying to run off. If parked in a normal parking space which could be anywhere in the car park my daughter would be a danger to herself and others. ( I hope that makes sence !! lol)
Regarding www.crelling.com we have used them in the past. Our daughter went through a stage of taking her seat belt off and either tried to climb over seats to get the in front or lie on the parcel shelf ! Yes we got stopped by the police once over this and she was banned from the school coucil bus as hse would get out her seat and lie on the floor at the back of the but hanging on to the clips on the floor shouting " yeahhhhhhhhh this is fun !!!"" I would not change you for the world, but I would change the world for you"
Proud to be parent of a child with Autism:D
When I see your face there's not a thing that I would change 'cause your amazing just the way you are0 -
Think they changed the critiria in April to allow for Autism and ADHD I've not yet asked at ours as I qualify for one. My hubby could prob do with one as he forgets to lock the door and he's off before the keys are out. He's damaged quite a few cars doors as a result.
Just ask for form and take to GP if you've got their support they dont usually turn it down0 -
My son has ADHD & Autism and he has a blue badge. The lady who I spoke with at the BB Department told me that the onus is to give the badge for ADHD diagnosed children because of how unpredictable they are on the roads and it is given to ensure they are kept safe - it has nothing to do if they walk or not (and half of the time mine doesn't either - OT told me to get a disabled buggy for these days and I got one from Freecycle!!). I guess there is an upper age limit but it costs nothing to call and ask them. Ours DOES give them, ehether or not they get DLA. When applied I did not even had a paediatrician as we had moved and had been transferred, I just sent all the paperwork in that was relevant.
If I do not have a hold on my son by the wrist he is always running and he runs straight out to get to where the car is parked. When I have a hold of him he is like a dog on a leash pulling and straining to get away. I have actually taken up running so I have more chance - and stamina - of being able to keep up with him when he gets away.
The only thing is that there is often not a lot of BB parking anyhow so we still do not really use it and so do not really go anywhere if it is busy, it just gives us more space if the space is there - he can be out of his car seat and standing on the front seat before I have even taken my keys from the ignition.0
