Can I get blue badge for 8 year old son who suffers very bad ADHD, When I am trying to drive or park the car, he loses it at times and throws things at me or grabs handbrake, Would I be able to get blue badge, or any other information would help, I do not get any benefits at all for him,
He does not have a social worker and is on Ritalin, Any help appreciated:T

Short answer - No. Sorry
The Blue (formerly Orange) Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of on-street parking concessions enabling people with severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers to park close to their destinations. The Scheme also applies to registered blind people, people with severe upper limb disabilities in both arms who regularly drive a vehicle and children under two with specific medical conditions.Life is not all about money - we just believe so :hello:0 -
I think Keith's pretty much answered that.. I don't understand how having a blue badge would make any difference? You'd still have to park, surely just being able to park nearer where you're going would make no difference to him throwing things etc? You'd probably be able to get DLA for him, if you could prove he needed more care than any other 8 year old, worth getting advice from CAB, or benefits and work0

Ha, v.funny, wish he could be in the boot at times, The problem is also (which i never put in op) is that he walks a little bit and then has a tantrum, It's not that he cannot walk, most of the time his behaviour is so bad I just cannot get him to walk, I see what you mean though and probably would not be able to get badge, I also do not get any other
financial help, we got turned down for DLA as he does not wake through the night, Not until 5am anyway and then he up for the day, I have heard if we had a social worker we may get extra help but OH will not go down that route as he thinks all social workers do is remove kids from homes, Guess just keep battling on then, Thanks for advice:T0 -
Actually I disagree with those who say you will not be able to get a blue badge for ADHD. It would be worth looking at your local council's website to see what 'exceptions' they have.
Also did you get help with the DLA form? Welfare Rights might be able to help - if you didn't appeal at the time it may be worthwhile.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Thank You I will take a look at the site, (It was my friend who posted and now she gone home) As far as I know she did not get help with form nor did she appeal, They just struggle on especially as OH will not let social workers help, I will take a look and try to advise her, Thank You:T0 -
You can get DLA without needing help at night
the main area you'd probably go for with ADHD is care and attention.. I've only had very little experience of it, and for short amounts of time, but not being able to take your eyes off them without something happening, is not something that is necessary for all 8 year olds. Also, the extra information given, means that it's possible you'd be able to get a blue badge, it just didn't sound like it from the first post. It does vary very much by council though... Definitely try and get some advice re DLA, that should help with the BB application, and if you do apply for BB, then get his dr to right a letter to go with, explaining why it's necessary, as the diagnosis alone isn't what counts, and good luck

Thanks for all advice, you are a great bunch, will follow advice and pass it on
thank you0 -
my son has aspergers syndrome and learning difficulties and is extremely unpredictable around vehicles
he gets Hight rate care DLA but low rate mobility and he qualified for a blue badge under our local councils discretionary criteria
we went for an interview with the officer- we were in the rooom 4 minutes and she said she had no porblem issuing his badge as she could see he had "difficulties"
well worth trying in my opinion0 -

First your friend needs to concentrate on getting DLA for her son as I believe you can only get a blue badge if you get DLA at top mobility rate?? (not sure about this). She needs to get anyone she can onside like docs, school, social workers etc and when filling forms in lay problems on thick! Does he need attention in the night? Well in my opinion 5am is the middle of the night! lol
I think best way is to either get a professional who is used to filling in forms or someone who is already getting DLA and who knows what is expected to help with application.0
