Appreciate you pointing out the obvious, but what I didn't write in the forum as I didnt think it was applicable was the fact that I read the meter directly to someone on the phone when we were re-setting up a direct debit that EON did not set up in the first place, and I can read numbers so know that I would not have got it wrong!!

The telephone conversation was in conjunctionn with my usage and we discussed absolutely everything that I have, technical setup, appliances when I used them. So as you will see as far as I was concerned the meter reading was CORRECT, but in my total naivity I did not take a note of the reading as I never thought that I would be in this situation.

If the rep had done his job properly he would have seen that the readings were incredibly low for the winter months in a fully electric flat (if I knew anything about this sort of stuff then so would I, but I just assumed when you are advised by a professional, you are getting appropriate information). If he had of seen this then he would not have suggested lowering the DD by £13 a month, and in fact would have advised me to stay with the £50 or increase it. So if that had of happened, yes I would probably still have a debit amount but it certainly would not be to the tune of £600+. Now I have worked through the figures with someone and not just been told it is wrong without anyone showing me a calculation, I am fully aware of the fact that I have used the electricity and I am liable for the payment - but what I am saying is I would not be in such a horrid situation if the person that I had originally dealt with had done his job properly - and that was confirmed by a rep today - but EON are not prepared to assist me with a reasonable payment other than having a pre-pay meter installed - which is not going to happen as I do not have the time to go and buy credit all the time, and have minimal amount of room for the stress thinking that credit is going to run out.

I might not know about the usage of electricity but I do know how to read numbers as I use them all day long. If I knew what I was talking about I would never have posted my questions on here.

As the Eon rep in this forum has advised make a written complaint they will be able to listen to your call and find out what went wrong and let you know.

    Hi TiredSplat

Good to hear you have discussed your account with us and that the charges now reflect the electricity used.

As others have posted, we do record calls so will be able to pinpoint where any mistakes were made. Ask the agent you are dealing with to check this out.

Also ask for a payment arrangement to spread the debt over a similar period to that when your Direct Debit was too low.

Those readings from 26 Nov to 12 March must be an error.

A fully electric flat, for three and a half months over the coldest part of the winter, to only use a total of 673kWh is just not believable. That would be low in a property with Gas CH.

I appreciate you say that they are not estimated readings, but that is the only reason I can think would account for that.

Also to 'only' use a total 6261kWh in 6 months over a winter is good.

I am a little surprised that you manage to use one third of your electricity on Economy 7 without storage heating.

I have a two bedroom all electric flat and I use 4000KWH per annum! It's perfectly possible if you are sensible with the heating.

I do agree that 673 units in three and a half months is unlikely tho - I used 7.5 units a day my first winter when I lived alone, showered at work and used no heating at all.
