Are used cars selling? If so - where?!

Ok, it's early days I suppose but been trying to sell my little Smart Car for a week now and had no interest at all, apart from a handful of scam emails!

I'm feel the car is priced very reasonably (done my research) and I have advertised in many places (Autotrader, Ebay, Morrisons, Pistonheads, Smart Car Club sites, Poster in car, facebook!) but I haven't had anyone contact me or come to view the car

Can anyone suggest any ideas for selling or advertising? Also is anyone else having this problem, are used cars not selling at the moment? BTW, my car is just over £3k.

Thanks :D

Might need to be just under £3k to get interest in it?! I.e. £2995. Most buyers will have some sort of a limit in mind when purchasing a car, and these would tend to be at the whole thousands, so pricing it under £3000 opens you up to all those for whom £3000 is their limit.
  • Buyers are being very picky and cautious at the moment.

Keep an eye on the places you've advertised and make sure your car is among the cheapest on there for the age and mileage.

Also make sure your advert is a good one. All the relevant information laid out well. People will assume the worst if you don't tell them.Check the photo's are good ones, i.e good quality preferably of the car when its just been valeted. - the more the merrier.

Apart from that not a lot you can do unless you really want to raffle it away.

The biggest reason that anything doesn't sell is usually down to price, a buyer will not pay as much for a private sale as for one from a dealer.

Heed the good advice given above by others.

Just sold mine after 4 days of putting it on Add Trader (the Yellow paper)for £11 displayed in 2 issues and pic and also Displayed on the Add Trader Website Immediately after they have vetted your add. :T Be aware of a company that trawls through the adds then phones you up saying they have lots of customers on thier books looking for a car like yours and saying how cheap it is and they could ask for more and most probably get it for you and that would cover the £80 that they want to charge you plus give you extra hoping that the greed factor will take over in you  The funny thing is all the customers that they had waiting for your car JUST BOUGHT ONE from somewhere else. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

They trawl Gumtree too. I had a missed call on my mobile when I was selling my last car, checked it on the whocallsme.com site and it came up with this scam.

Hi, my Smart car's still for sale at a good price, had no interest either! I was quite surprised because the market moved so fast for them when I bought mine. I was hoping he'd be away by now
Keep us posted if yours does sell please!

We had a Smart car for ages at work. top of the range Brabus thing! Took nearly two months for the sodding thing to sell. Too many of them out there and the engines last about 30,000 miles...

Thanks for the replies, though I have to disagree with the 30,000 miles remark by harveybobbles....smart engines are excellent, made by Mercedes and if it only lasted 30k miles there must have been something very wrong with it. I know Smarts that have gone over 100k miles and still going!

I will try the Ad Trader site. I have checked on price and mine is the best price on all sites for it's age/mileage etc. Suppose it's going to take a few weeks at least.

Just type into google "Smart car engine problems" or something similar...

Perhaps just not that bigger market for 2 seater Smarts at 3K when other small motors like C1/Aygo are cheap new. Used cars are meant to be doing O.K at present.
