Tesco Metro here with a small-ish Co-Op so the Medium Sommerfield has closed for 3 months to re-appear as a Morrisons! (Nailsworth)

Nothing much seems to be happening from the outside.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!
  • Our Somerfield was shut for about 10 days max and then became a Waitrose with cafe, it is a fairly small store so they didn't have structural work to do - just a refit inside.

Some prices are dearer so won't use them for everything, but do some lovely treats - wish they didn't have the New York cheesecake slices, I can't resist it!

Its probably taking 3 months because ther is alot more work involved than a normal refit, Morrisons have the Market Street which would take alot of work to put in.

When our Somerfield changed to Sainsburys a few years back it only took about 4 weeks but it is a small store

Couldn't they take a taxi or bus to another store? The savings they'd make through not shopping at Somerfield would easily pay for the bus fare!

Brentford, West London is on the Morrisons list.

Managed to find this snipet in the end!!

Buyout of former Co-operative and Somerfield stores

When the Co-op completed the take-over of Somerfield, Morrisons purchased in excess of 30 stores from the combined group. They plan to completely refit these stores to include as much of the full Morrisons format as possible. On Monday 30 March 2009, the following stores were advertised to be re-furbished by Morrisons:
Morrisons still have several stores to change, Including the Co-operative food Leven-Fife

:D When our store Downham Market, Norfolk closed, Morrisons have arranged buses every week for everyone to go to the Kings Lynn Morrisons so they can do their shopping. :T

Hooray!! I live in a small town in mid Devon and Somerfields was our only supermarket (not that there was anything 'super' about it!) with miserable unhelpful staff, half empty shelves ( to busy yakking to each other to stack shelves) and very limited choice of brands. Now we are to be spoilt! A Tesco Superstore to open at the end of the year, and Morrisons due to open the old Scumersfields shop in August. Shame that Morrisons have kept on the miserable old bats that were employed in the old Scumers store but at least they (the staff) are going to another Morrisons store for re training. Hopefully Morrisons will be able to teach them how to smile and treat customers properly as it will be a nice change from their usual attitude!
I know a lot of folks are against supermarkets but when you live about 15 miles from a big store, it takes over 2 hours and a gallon of petrol to do a weekly shop. ( I now await the 'shop locally brigade' to kick off ! I would if I could afford their prices.)

P.S. Off now to build an 'anti flak' shelter!!

I am fairly happy with Morrisons that rose from somerfield ashes.

The prices are more keen. Even though cramped they have squeezed in a bakery, hot and cold deli, salad bar, butcher, fishm, self service tills, row of entertainment and housewares.
Sometimes they have no stocks of sardines as not many facings of some products. Sometimes fruit n veg can be sparce but i manage to sratch a shop most times. Unless Tuna deals they are expensive as no morr value tuna.
I look on the morr website for deals and they mostly stock these

It is good for the community, there were queues out the door at first but now mostly bearable.

My Somerfield closed mid-January 2010 and signs outside say it will reopen as a Sainsburys Summer 2010. This is Saltburn-by-the-Sea. They are currently running a free bus to the nearest Sainsburys supermarket.
