My local Somerfield is closed for 3 months until it has been refurbished into a Morrisons. (many people put out like pensioners)
There is no official word (net/HQ reply/sign) other than asked a builder / check out girl before they closed!
It has almost been gutted, it was weird in the last few days of trading as most of the shelves were empty!!

There is a Tesco Express (5 mins) and a Tesco Metro (15 mins) But all the bigger other stores are 30 mins away.

Many can't wait for 3 months to go by!!! (all that dragging the goods home!!)

I can see a nice little earner then for a few strapping teenagers to set themselves up as errand runners...

Ours burned down and was replaced by a Tesco Metro!

Ours closed last week for 3 months too. Although there's a Tesco at the other end of town, the main problem for most people is that Somerfield was the only shop which gave Scottish Power customers the option to top up their plastic keys ... now everyone's got to travel 5 miles to the nearest shop which does it ... tis a pain in the proverbial.

Where I lived, Somerfield is becoming Sainsburys and has been shut for about a month and will be opening in early July.

They ran a git bus, for all the local pensioners to be able to go shopping, so no more free shopper bus for pensioners in the town.

Personally, I found it was a hopeless store, employing stupid staff, so it's not likely to be missed ... except Sainsburys are employing the same idiot staff.

Where's yours? I don't go to Somerfield that often as it's too expensive in general, but I did try to go to the one in Brentford the other day, only to find it had closed down. I really hope that it'll become a Morrisons...

Brentford, West London is on the Morrisons list.

Managed to find this snipet in the end!!

Buyout of former Co-operative and Somerfield stores

When the Co-op completed the take-over of Somerfield, Morrisons purchased in excess of 30 stores from the combined group. They plan to completely refit these stores to include as much of the full Morrisons format as possible. On Monday 30 March 2009, the following stores were advertised to be re-furbished by Morrisons:
Morrisons still have several stores to change, Including the Co-operative food Leven-Fife
