For the posters that are critisizing my car maintenance skills - your wrong!
The levels on these are fine, i check them on a monthly basis. I DO maintenance checks although i must admit, i would love to learn a bit more so may look into it -thanks.
It (the intermittent lights coming on) seems that it is a loose connection on a wire so an electrical fault.
The seat is being checked tomorrow so i will let you know.
Sorry if my post sounded critical as opposed to constructive.
I always recommend getting a car serviced and MOT'd at the same time - and doing this about 3 weeks before MOT is due to expire, especially if you think there may be possible problems. This gives you alot of time to work out what to do for the best. Source parts and find out the cost of work needed to be done to pass the MOT.
If you find a good independent garage, they will help you to find the best way to correct any problems. We have a good relationship with a local breaker and often get our customers out of an awkward spot when their purse/wallet is financially challenged!
You can also google breakers - someone like breakerlink - and put in all your cars details, what part you want and they link up with all the breakers nationwide and they come back with parts and prices (only if they have them of course!). You do then have the decision to make as to whether they 'sound' ok and that the part will be correct, but alot of them are really good and genuine. It is a risk - but if it saves money, it is worth considering.Genie

Sorry, using a piece of wood to stop the drivers seat from moving could be lethal, so I'm afraid that we are not " wrong ".
You said that you " think " that the rear tyres are OK, they either are, or they aint.0 -

Like i say, all oil levels etc are fine.
My back tyres are fine, i am just not sure how much tread is left in them as i am yet to get a 5 pence piece out to check the depth.
Inactive you are being critical and just rude to be honest. If you havent got anything constructive to say, then dont say anything at all OK!Thinking it over...:o0 -
Phew, i can breath a sigh of relief. Had it checked over by dad today and it turns out the teeth on the chair are worn down so i just need to pick one up from breakers before Thursday.Thinking it over...:o0

Not rude at all, just telling it like it is, your drivers seat has turned out to be dangerous, you could kill someone if your seat slipped while braking.0 -

That has my prize as the least likely fault of all time.
How do you use the seat adjustment so often as to wear it out?
Just so there's no doubt, I don't disbelieve the OP I'm just surprised as I have a 1995 Peugeot coming up for 229k miles and it isn't a problem I've seen.0 -

the "orange light comes on"... hmmm... i don't know that car, but it could be the brake warning light.. low fluid, and/or low brake pads.. some cars, including mine, are extremely sensitive to this.. no bad thing.. it means you should check it out to be safe.
book it for an MOT.. get the failure points.. work from there... if it needs something major, like structural welding, ditch it.. otherwise take it home, SORN it, and in your own good time, get dad to shuttle you to the salvage yards for spare parts.
don't worry about the MOT re-test fee.. It is a very small cost in the total yearly expenditure for a vehicle.0 -
Just an update on this, it didnt fail the MOT on any of the faults listed above, but it did fail on a split CV joint (or something like that) and one of the indicator lights wasnt orange enough! Passed second time round though but thanks for all your help anyways.Thinking it over...:o0
