You might be better trying a local council MOT station that doesn't do repairs. They have no interest then in failing your vehicle so that they can do the repairs. I'm sure someone will be along soon who can tell you where to find one. I'm positive I've seen mention of a website that locates them by area.

The trouble with council mots is that they follow the rule book so if something does just need tightening it's failed whereas a decent independent will fix it.

Many MOT testers like to adjust the seat for their comfort so they are likely to find out about the problem then. Get a Haynes and get yourself off to a scrap yard for another seat. .

I'm not sure the seat needs to be adjustable for the MOT, just "secure".

I suspect that you could fix the runners using a few nuts and bolts so that it doesn't move and it'd legitimately pass the MOT...

There is an online version of the MOT testers manual so you can see what constitutes a pass and what doesn't. I'll see if I can find a link.

    Here's a link: http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm

It only states that the seat should be "secure" and that "specialised modifications" are acceptable. So long as the seat is secure it should pass.......

Try sitting in the seat thats a bit dodgy and see if you can get it to stop, how do you move the seat back and forth is it a lever you use

It doesn't bode well, does it..

Trying to get a car through the MOT is not maintaining it.

Op - you need maintain a car all year - for your sake and other road users. It wouldn't hurt to take some courses so that you can learn to do bits for yourself. Basic things like topping up on oil, coolant and screenwash should be weekly tasks that all car owners should know how to do. You can learn to do other basic maintenance checks too. Check your local college for evening classes.

I still think that the seat will fail - sorry.

For the posters that are critisizing my car maintenance skills - your wrong!
The levels on these are fine, i check them on a monthly basis. I DO maintenance checks although i must admit, i would love to learn a bit more so may look into it -thanks.
It (the intermittent lights coming on) seems that it is a loose connection on a wire so an electrical fault.
The seat is being checked tomorrow so i will let you know.
