Merseyside Job Misery!

Hi
Firstly, just joined the Forum and would like to say a bit HELLO to everybody here.
Now, about my gripe regarding "Merseyside Job Misery!" My problem is that I am a 40 yr old male with over twenty years of good, solid admin experience, but despite all this experience, I just CANNOT get another office job anywhere on Merseyside. Those employment agenciea are utterly USELESS, and I am FED UP with lodging my CV with them and getting no jobs offered. I go on the jobsites every day and send off my CV for admin jobs, but it is very demoralising when you don't even get a reply.
Are most of these agency jobs fictitious? It seems that way!
So now I am suffering endless misery every day, waiting for the phone call from an employer that never comes, and getting more and more disheartened. Merseyside must one of the WORST places in the country for unemployment, and if there are any Merseysiders here, they will certainly know what I mean!
I have been trying to cheer myself up watching BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT, but even then, my miserable plight of unemployment is still playing on my mind.
So is Merseyside top of the league table for unemployment? Should I relocate (but then problems of finding accommodation arise). Should I change careers? Please SOMEBODY tell me what I can do to get out of this soul-destryoying jobless rut, as I feel as if I am just vegetating the longer my unemployment goes on. I not only feel extremely depressed, but very angry at the way these employers never reply to your job applications.
Many thanks

Merseyside's always been a black spot for employment, for as long as I can remember. It could be worth your while applying in other areas and then looking at the accommodation situation if you're offered something.
What qualifications do you have, what sort of salary are you looking for and how long have you been unemployed?0 -
Really sorry to hear you can't find anything. My husband is an office worker in Liverpool, but thankfully last had to look for a job over 7 years ago. I know he was with lots of agencies then, and a lot of them were useless! I certainly don't think it's just this aea though, everywhere you go you hear the same thing. No help I'm afraid, just wishing you luck.0

I totally agree that things are bad generally; I just meant that things are often bad on Merseyside even when quite buoyant elsewhere.0 -

I'm on the wirral and have just got a job in Speke - my Dad has to work in Manchester! Horrible commute, but he can't find the same work locally (something computer related, not sure what

Hi
Thanks for your comments. You know, you are so right in saying that Merseyside always been a blackspot for employment. Even when the country picked up economically, it was still so darned hard to get a job.
To answer your questions:
1. Qualifications? One 'O' level in Eng Lang, plus a few Office Skills certs.
2. Salary? Well, anything from the national min wage upwards
3. Duration of unemployment? Well, apart from a call centre job which just wasn't for me, nearly twelve months.Oldernotwiser wrote: »Merseyside's always been a black spot for employment, for as long as I can remember. Thanks for the info. I think that it would be a good idea to improve your skills/qualifications while you're unemployed. Have you been doing anything productive with your time?0

Oh really beat me to it with the NHS jobs but I would add that it may be worth looking at your local hospitals website for Jobs. There is a large turnover of Jobs in these places especially in Medical Records. Although saying that they often fill the places with Agency Staff. I know the hospitals round my area use Hays, Adecco and Office Angels. The World come on.....0

I've been applying for NHS jobs on www.jobs.nhs.uk/
I would also suggest taking some courses, you're up against people with qualifications and unfortunately in the current climate, you will find it difficult as although experience will count, most employers (such as the NHS/Council) will be looking for NVQ's too.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Tbh I suggest you need to look at your own CV as if you are getting no responses at all the problem is in your own skills than the job market
Also " a call centre job that didnt suit" - great attitude0
