Fed up...

...with estate agents laughing at me when I ring up to ask and view a property that they've sold but haven't advertised as sold, as if I'm the only one who doesn't have the power to read minds. Why don't they bl**dy remove it from their websites then, or indicate that it's been sold?

Also, I'm fed up with agents telling me there's a real shortage of supply and things are selling really fast, and very close to asking prices. What with Nationwide stats from yesterday, I don't know if I'm in denial or they are.

'Oh, that one was sold aaages ago, within days of being put on the market. They're selling like sweets! I'd looooove to get more properties like thae one' (Winkworth').

'Oh I'm sorry that one's been sold. Is that the only sort of property you're looking for?'
'Well yes, a 2 bed terraced house really, w...'
'Oh well they're very rare, we only get about 2 or 3 of those on the market a year I'm afraid'.
'Oh' (at this point I feel like crying).
(Acorn)

'Hi I'm calling about two of your properties on [insert location]. They appear as under offer, but I was wondering whether the offers have been acce...'
'They're sold.'
'Oh ok, so the offers have been acce...'
'They're sold. Who are you?'
'Er, I'm someone trying to buy a house?'
'D'you wanna register?'
'No, but thank you for your kindness'
(Haart)

I hate them all.

    .
I believe this is a deliberate policy so they can get your contact details and spam you in the future. It must be false advertising at the very least.

Well if you've got the odd £million or three going spare, you could always put in an offer for one of these. Doh! ... the third one's already sold subject to contract. Fred 'the shred' must have put in an offer ... who else has £2,700,000 available in this economic climate?

BTW, I'll just take my 1% commission thank you.

Auctions are the only place you'll see the true price at which goods clear.

Agreed, wait until the days are short and dark and everyone is feeling a bit more gloomy (or realistic, depending on how you look at it). There's still too much denial at the moment.

Evidence mounts to suggest worst is over

"But one thing can be stated absolutely: the conditions in May are very different to those of last autumn. The prolonged period of month-by-month falls in house prices now appear to be drawing to a close."

!!!!!! hasn't posted here for some considerable time now, but I'll let that pass, unlike the FT's bad grammar.

I see you have used the word 'maybe,' so you're fence-sitting too. ;)

The current situation is becoming more interesting, as we wait to see if the bounce, which has taken many of us by surprise, can be sustained. Personally, I can't see any good reason why it should, or feel confident that the situation won't deteriorate again when the amount of government-generated money declines, as it must.

In any event, it's a lovely day and no one need feel that they have to rush out and buy a house berfore they miss th.....You know the rest!

Indeed! You are right:D But buyers in the UK should never underestimate the shortage of decent housing here. Something that is often dismissed on this board and HPC. I'm sure there will be lots of posters along to tell me there is no housing shortage....

Might be nice outside but there's footy on the TV - another good reason not to buy a house this afternoon;)

Ok I'll bite. Isn't there a million empty houses? Or is this sort of urban myth?
