I just wanted to be with my friend at midnight at this milestone. Her OH died 18 months ago and this would have been good for them.
I'm just a selfish old woman.

I think as your DD2 decided to leave early she shoukld have given you money to get a taxi home!

You're not selfish at all, you're amazing and a real inspiration. You actually get on with things in your life, rather than just burying your head in the sand and hoping it'll all go away, like me. I've just been having a little cry re-reading the reference my tutor wrote me, which basically got me into uni as I know my grades were too low. The last line said, " Kayleigh is a delight to have known over the past 2 years and I am sure that her motivation and passion for academic life will guarantee her success." Wonder what she'd think of me now. Not exactly succeeding, am I?
