Problems getting MAC from AOL to switch to Madasafish

Tonight I rang AOL to request an MAC, so that I could join Madasafish. They were polite but obstructive, stating that due to their switching to Local Loop Unbundling, and not having completed the process, the old migration method will not work (surprise surprise) and therefore they no longer issue the codes.
She also resorted to suggesting my bandwidth useage would exceed Madasafish's 5GB level, stating that I average 150 hours surfing a month, and that uses up around 10 GB. I know this to be bullsh1t. Surfing and e-mailing without lots of video streaming or online gaming uses nothing like that amount.
The upshot being of course, that if I cancel now, I'll have to go onto dial-up for at least a couple of weeks before Madasafish activate my new broadband service, leaving me without broadband for quite a while.
I'm pretty angry to be frank. It sounds as though this is some kind of AOL rouse to deter people from switching. That said, I'm a bit concerned that Madasafish fails to be aware of this on its website, still listing AOL as one of the providers from whom you can migrate.
So much for seamless migration.

Hi, LLU has got nothing to do with it - it's still the same mac.
Call again & speak to someone else.
Also it's highly unlikely that you go through 10gig per month. I go through about 2 gig per month & I have about 3 hours surfing per day and about 1gb other download per month.0 -
I thought AOL followed OFCOM's code of practice. I had awful trouble getting code from Talk Talk and was cross with myself for having chosen a company who didn't. AOL have signed up so you may be able to go down that route. See link below.

Good luck. I know how stressful it can be.0 -
So how long should it take to get a MAC off a company who isn't register? I am currently with Plusnet, I joined july 2005 for £14.99 per month 2mb unlimited. Since then they have stopped p2p downloading and just a few days ago introduced a 2gig limit to my package.
Can I end my contract early with them as they have again changed their terms? I think I can do that within 30 days of them changing T&Cs.
One of the problem I could encounter with them is they can charge me £58 set-up fee which was deferred on a year to year scale, reducing by £13 per year. By july 2006 I would pay £45 if I choose to leave them. I will be leaving them to find an unlimited provider.0 -
Thanks, I know what you mean, and was aware of this, but they aren't playing ball.sloughflint wrote:I thought AOL followed OFCOM's code of practice. I suppose I'm just going to have to cancel my AOL contract, get dial-up for a month or so and resume broadband that way with another ISP. It's left a bad taste in my mouth to be frank,0 -
Ugh. My AoHell contract is up on April 14th, and I've been dying to switch. I didn't realize they didn't issue MACs.
