LL not so brilliant Helen - you may be able to give the LL's one month's notice , he has to give you as Ts two. Your rent book should have some very specific information about the basic terms of your tenancy and where you can seek advice. Does it have this?HelenYorkshire wrote: »I'm enquiring about a "hypothetical" (;)) situation that is really starting to drag...
Quick outline - shared house of 5, plus one single spare room. No signed contracts but given rent book. Notice is one month either way. Landlords are brilliant :j
I think your LL is a total amateur and is probably failing to comply with all many of LL& T laws and regs.
Have you paid tenancy deposits, and if so, has the LL scheme-registered them and given you the prescribed info form the scheme?
Is there a gas safety certificate?
As Pastures says, its possible that this house should be licensed as an HMO, depending on the specific rules in force in your area.
You say that a LL's relative let out another room and that the LL is "hopping mad", and yet either this relative is party to ownership of the property or has some arrangement with the LL or s/he wouldn't have been able to do this.
I think you need to regularise your tenancy and your best bet is to talk to the Private Sector Rentals team at the local Council.0
