Ah, pleased that you were asked, Cuppa. I think they should have said that you had given permission, though, and I also think that since they use your username on MSE, and Kazzea's, too, that they should have acknowledged MSE in their text files.

sim_card_alert has decided to close down the PiggyBackQuest Yahoo site, blaming the closure mainly on moaning. I assume the finger must therefore be pointed at me for raising questions here on MSE.

Quotes from an email received today:

"I also notice get lots of abuse over the forums no reason at all."

"I just don't why I have created the group in the first
place if people start to mown for no reason. I get no funding, not
many thanks; I even have doing all my own work just posting."

"I am decided to close up the group for wasting my time and hard
effort on Monday if any member wish to take over the group please
    email me."

I am sorry that the site owner/manager wishes to close his/her site down if it was a source of entertainment and satisfaction for them. However, the real reason for its closure must surely be the fact that no-one but sim_card_alert really posts on there. It doesn't have the dynamic that our board here does, nor does it have the light-hearted exchange of opinions.

"Lots of abuse"?? Just me, raising the odd question on here, as far as I am aware, unless other people have emailed or PM'd the site owner. Good job PB doesn't close down after questions from just one member!

In the end, PBQ merely lifted info from here and placed it elsewhere. Not really a service that people are likely to rush for.

I did note earlier comments regarding some of sim_card_alert's other Yahoo groups, and, if they are useful, wish them well.

    Don't worry Droopsnout. :)

I don't think you can have been even slightly responsible for Simcard alert closing down Piggybackquest. I think it was obvious from the way the email alerts were dying out that he was gradually losing interest. If he'd been serious about continuing it I'm sure he would have been emailing all of the four or five daily links out of the Pigsback thread, not the occasional one or two. They're posted together and easy to recognise, so it wouldn't have been any extra work.

I've only visited his site once, so I don't know what has been posted there.

I haven't been able to work out what he gains from the site, is there advertising, does he have affiliate links on it, or is it just for fun? The emails try to encourage you to visit the website, so I suppose he must want the traffic.

I don't know about any abuse; I certainly never gave any, and I don't think anything you wrote constitutes abuse either. It just sounds like someone who's a a bit disgruntled because their idea didn't turn out as well as he'd hoped.

Could I ask whether you received a personal email, or were these comments about closing the group on the normal piggyback quest digest? I didn't receive anything at all.

I got the same mail through the 'normal piggyback quest digest'.

In all fairness I was asked and gave permission for it to be used, but probably without knowing fully what it was to be used for. I think the information provided by MSE Users on the Pigsback threads is generally of a high standard and I would hope that the PiggyBack Quest is of at least a high standard. As I have never used PiggyBack Quest myself I don't know and can't comment.
It was just a simple Yahoo newsgroup with a short line or two of text and a link for each alert. Nothing wrong with that in itself, I've used other newsgroups on Yahoo and it's the same set up. It's simple and it works, in as much as it gets the information from here to there in an easily accessible form.

I don't think there was anything, in the email alerts at least, that would have reflected badly on your posts or on MSE. It was just information, without any frills, but mostly accurate.

The original Sim Card Alert group depended on speed of getting the information out, (Sim offers can close very quickly once their quota is reached), so information wasn't verified and relied on members notifying dead links and the like. I'm guessing that PBQ was run in a similar way, so this may have contributed to complaints of inaccuracy. I don't really know.

I can't comment on the site other than to say that if it seems a bit amateurish, that's probably because it is an amateur site, as far as I can see. Again, that's OK in itself. I don't know how regularly it's updated and maintained, though.

As I said previously, a while back there was quite a lot of information coming out from PBQ, and at the time I was pleased to have it. It was useful in the time before the MSE thread got as hot and well-organised as it is now. :)

PBQ has really been superceded by MSE, (don't know who was first, and it's largely irrelevant), but perhaps that is what SimCard is really annoyed about, as well as the fact that people, (quite reasonably I think), objected to having the MSE thread used to publicise his website, which you can't blame them for. :) PBQ might have been relevant to the thread, and of potential use to Pigsbackers, but there was still the problem of etiquette, and I don't think SimCard managed that as well as he might have done.

That's really weird, I didn't get it at all. I'm sure I wouldn't have deleted it without reading. Did I unsubscribe without remembering???

Sometimes Yahoo can be a bit odd with things like that, or maybe I'm just going senile! :D

I think you're quite right Droopsnout. (I was going to say "I agree.", but then got a messages saying I had to lengthen my message to more than 10 characters - hope this is enough - don't usually have that problem, more likely to have a problem with having to cut down the number of characters.)
