Why not get a usb cooling tray for the laptop. They're reasonably cheap on Ebay.0

im sure you can insist on your money back as its a fault with the product itself (and not you disliking it)

I have a problem with my laptop and im not sure what to do with it. I bought it from PC World and i want to know if anyone knows what the returns procedure is.
It is a packard bell and when it has been on for let say 2 hours it will suddenly turn off. The base is extremely hot and the fan is very very noisy. I do study computing but im still unsure whats wrong with it. Could it be the fan? or the processor? Anyhoo, i want to take it back and get a full refund, i dont want to be associated with PC World, i just dont like their service or their inferior products. The main problem is that i want a replacement or refund as i cannot be longer than 2 days without my laptop as i have a load of deadlines due soon and need to get them done.
I went in today to explain my situation and the assistant said that it has to be sent away for at least a week to be 'diagnosed' and fixed. I dont want it fixed i want a new laptop for the problems, why would i want the rubbish one back? So anyway, what are my rights? am i entitled to a replacement or refund?
Has anyone got a clue on what to do? or what rights i have?
P.S. It takes the mick when they ask you to phone an 0845 number to get the laptop you bought of them fixed.
thanks for your time
Tom
I had a very very similar situation you have now, we bought pc from pcworld last year and it went faulty within a few months, so we took it back instore and was told warrenty was only 28 days and that there service call had to come out and fix it, ok our thoughts were we wernt happy but give them the chance to fix it, so the guy came out and tested hard drive and put new one in and walked away without running the recovery which he had filled in on his form but on running the recovery the pc was still knacked so we took the pc back in again and the store were ok and offered to look at pc instore and found that not only was the hardrive knacked but the processor and mobo too and offered to rebuild pc with same compontents to which i then refused and asked for refund which they refused till i mentioned that ide been intouch with trading standards and that they were more than happy to take on the case if no refund issed, manager called and refund issued within mins but check first (t.s) as i cant remember if i had to let them fix it or if i could have just got the refund, give them a call.
I do remember that t.s informed me that my contract was with pc and that the goods had to be fit for the purpose they were sold for and that my pc wasnt, i think thats the line you have to use.
P.s the problems you have seem to be the same or similar as mine, our pc would just reboot whenever it felt like it and base was hot.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

In the corporate environment we've had problems where they will refuse to repair a totally obvious fault (screen invertor) because we won't ship equipment with the hard disk in it (IT security / risk analysis procedures).
You're quite right to get as far away from PCW as possible. Erm, there's a 6-month clause in the sales of goods act, can't remember what it is, maybe someone else could clarify based on that 6 month mention. So time is running out. I think it's the period where you can legally demand a refund or replacement, given that the equipment is designed to function for longer than 1 year. Applies to washing machines and things.
6 months anyone??
yeah - I though there was a 6 month clause in the sale of goods act which basically should mean that something of that price should be expected to last longer than 6 months and if it does'nt then you can demand a refund or replacement - speak to trading standards maybe?0 -
When will people learn, DON'T BUY FROM PC WORLD!!
(thats just my opinion of course!)0 -

right, i have just phoned up the helpline and this is the verdict apparently.
it is the laptop overheating (durrr). It needs sending away to, now where is it again, oh yes, HOLLAND!!!!!!!!! which will take approximately 5 days (whatever). So anyway, the guy on the phone was very helpfull and explained the procedure. But the problem still remains that i will have no laptop for god knows how long. The customer rep said that i should go into PC World if this is a problem and complain and ask for a replacement, but he said that this will almost definitley not happen. So what should i do? He said that if i took out business insurance or the repair protection plan with PC World then i would be given a spare while mine is been repaired, but im sorry i was not told this, if i was then i would have taken it out.
Any comments on what i should do? if i do go in what should i say? help please.

I would still go in and complain and see if they are able to offer a replacement - at least while yours is away getting repaired!
Did you say your local PC World doesnt have its on in house repair centre? Why does it have to go all the way to Holland?!!!!Weight Loss - 102lb0
