I am going to London over the easter weekend. I have travelodge rooms and a theatre trip booked but I am amazed at the cost of parking!!! I have however heard that after 1.30pm on Sat and all day Sunday and easter Monday the parking bays are free does anyone know if this is true. I know they do this in Manchester, after 6pm every night and all day Sunday and Bank holidays are free. I am staying at travelodge on kings cross road, has anyone stayed here or can anyone give any advice.

In Westminster you can park in meter bays and on single yellow lines on sundays and bank holidays. The "after 1.30 on saturdays" ended a few years ago. I think its after 6.30 now.

You could just leave the car a bit further out where the parking is free and get the tube into town. No worries then about parking or congestioon charges etc.

Unfortunatly, you will be in Camden, which is notorius for dishing out parking tickets. They even use cctv to enforce parking. You may be better off parking somewhere for free and getting the tube in.

I'd park in the suburbs and get the overground, personally. It'll cost a little more but it seems that the further you get out of London, the less likely you are to get a ticket and it will be much cheaper and more comfortable.

    Welcome to the site Jance.

Always check the signs where you park in London. Different Boroughs have different rules.

We stayed at the Islington t/l last weekend - also in Kings X RD.For £3.50 a day each,we had unlimited bus travel and it is very easy to get from KX to the west end.If you can find somewhere to park near the show, you will probably pay £3 an hour.Meters were £4 ph.The Islington T/L charges £15 a day and there were plenty of spaces.I suppose it depends how many of you are going. If 4 or 5,it may be cheaper to get a taxi.

When we go to London, we always park on the road near one of the tube stations like Brent Cross, which is on the outskirts of London, and park for free. The tube into London is much quicker and more convenient, and even though I know central London well, driving there is just not worth the hassle

Is there any reason why you need to take the car into London ? If you are not familiar with driving in London then the car will just sit in the car park the whole time. Is it possible for you to take the train to London ?

Hi Loobs, The reason we are taking the car is we are traveling down from Cheshire and the car runs on LPG so its much cheaper than the train. It will cost us around £12.50 each way so it beats the train hands down.

If you're not getting in to London until about 6pm on the Saturday, you should find somewhere to park for free around Holborn (maybe around the western end of the Clerkenwell Road) or on one of the streets around Chancery Lane.

If you're really stuck, you should find a place on St John's Street. It's a bit of a treck but you can get the tube from Farringdon Road or the bus up Clerkenwell Road.
