Eu law states the retailer HAS TO give you a 6 year guarentee to fix faulty items
THIS APPLIES FOR EVERYTHING THAT IS FAULTY
So if anything goes wrong in 6 years of you buying the item you can take it back and get it fixed free of charge
This is in England and Wales
All of european countries have 2 year
This was in the daily mail

EU law creates a minimum period of two years in which a faulty product can be returned, and in England and Wales the figure is six years.

It only applies if the fault is a manufacturing fault. You might well have difficulty proving that.

<sigh> BERR can't start their awareness campaign quickly enough.

Search the Consumer Rights and Discussion Time forum for the countless times this has been posted over the last few days [bloody Daily Mail]. It does not mean what you've posted above.

Rather abrupt if I may say.

Few posters search evert single forum before posting and the OP was only trying to be helpful.

Apologies to OP, my frustration wasn't particularly directed at them for posting it, more the false impression the Mail has given which has only seemed to create a lot of undue excitement and will probably cause retailers to harden their stance further in the short-term when they point out the inaccuracies in the claims this article made.
