I know it's a democracy, but. . .

. . . is there any way to block the delivery of political pamphlets at election time???
I know I can bin 'em unread, just like any other junk mail, and I also know that if I lived in Bristol, Royal Mail's trade union members wouldn't deliver BNP material (not because they're abusing their position for political reasons, rather that they genuinely are sensitive souls.)
But I keep entertaining the naive notion that at least one leaflet might contain something to redeem the British political process. Instead:
Today I have received "A message from Bob Crow" on behalf of the, er, No 2 Eu 'party' which concludes:
'We need to send a message to politicians that they have no right to give away our democratic rights to decide how we are governed."
(Surely, this can't be the same Bob Crow who regularly decides to remove passengers' rights to travel on the London Underground??)
Then there's the Labour Party's leaflet, also received today:
"Labour: Winning the fight for Britain's future"
Er, how come after 12 years in office there's any kind of "fight" at all? I thought 12 years ago, the future was assured? I mean, that's what Labour said back then.
And what's this about "Labour stands up for hard-working British people"? Was that before or after removing the 10p tax band and advantaging the better-off, many of whom weren't actually working hard anyway but bankrupting our financial institutions?
And what's this here: "This is the ballot paper you will be given when you go to your local polling station. Place a cross in the box next to Labour."
What happened to: "please?" Or: "We'd be ever so grateful, ducks, if you'd place your little cross next to Labour"?
As for the Tories, they seem congenitally incapable of even basic communication. Instead, I've received a phony newspaper with phony reports by a phony (and illiterate) "journalist" where the candidate necessarily appears only in the third person: Mr Smith says this, Mr Smith is doing that, Mr Smith is calling upon the Government to note that.
Why the hell can't Mr Smith tell me himself?
Or is he just as phony as the daft rubbish his party is putting out?
Binning this crap is a great solution for those who can resist the temptation to read it. Sadly, I can't. Hence the question: would Royal Mail block the transmission of electoral gibberish if I ask nicely?

Just throw them away without reading them. Problem solved.0

Probably not, Democratic Rights and all that! But why do they not print these things on toilet paper, then we can recycle in the most deserving way and help to reduce paper useage:rotfl:Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0

Before you throw away the BNP leaflet take a moment to look at the pictures on it. That Spitfire was from a Polish RAF squadron, those two "pensioners" are actually Italian models, while the "builder" and "doctor" are American. When that soldier found out his picture was being used, he hit the roof and called the BNP "scumbags".What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Can't believe they're allowed to put that rubbish out to anyone.0 -

Ah. Wot a boogum! I did look at the pamphlet and thought it a bit strange the BNP had a Spitfire on the front instead of a Messer!!!!!!!. . . but that was all.
Perhaps it would've been better to have a picture of Harold fighting off the Normans, though weren't Harold's ancestors immigrants anyway -- so what right did they have to be here?
People would have more time for the BNP if it bothered to do something about all those Germanic tribes who stole our country in the first place: where are all those BNP posters saying JUTES GO HOME, or ANGLES AWAY, or SAXONS OUT or FRESIANS FLOCK OFF?
Answer: nowhere.
It's a shame the BNP has nothing better to do than mess around with invitations to some German family's garden party: every time I get down Norwich way I weep at the way it's now the Land of the Eastern Angles (though it'll be just as bad in the Land of the Western Saxons.)
As any vote for the BNP is approximately 1,500 years too late to mean anything I've decided not to support them.
Actually, we're off on hols tomorrow -- a temporary emigration if The Continent lets us stay -- so won't be voting for anyone anyway. . .
Yay!!
:j
PS: Unless Joanna Lumley's going to post something here.
Er: why has my reference to a Luftwaffe aircraft been censored???? Should I have called it a little Focker?0 -
I detest the BNP and everything it stands for. I was even (jokingly) contemplating suing the BNP for libel as the leaflet states "people like you are voting for the BNP" or whatever their propaganda says!
On my way home from work this evening, one of the large landscape billboards, the BNP bizarre advert about British Jobs !!!!! has been vandalised, no i don't condone damaging property but I'm pleased that people are not be sucked in to vote for a racist party and supporting their ideology:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I know, I was going to sue as well. My wife's from Somalia, the mother-in-law's from Haiti and I come from Kazakhstan and no way are any of us voting for the BNP.
They really do seem to have a problem at their Research Department.0
