Hi,

I have a problem with my internet, not only with Firefox but also IE.

I use Yahoo as my home page and whenever I search for something I get yahoo's list of answers as usual, but when I click on a link I want to visit, I'm then taken to various other sites such as ask.com, fummo .com, search explorer.com, then it will take me to something totally unrelated such as youtube. I press the back button and it takes me to another search engine site. This happens in both Firefox and IE.

Can anyone help as it is really getting on my tits.

Sounds like you have a infection, you need to clean your system. What antivirus and anti-spyware are you running? Suggest youy do a full manual scan with them to start with.

Try the spyware removal tools - spybot spyyblaster, malwarebytes etc.

Had the same problem myself once - and I was using free AVG I think - think I rebooted into safe mode as well to remove the rubbish somehow.

Reboot to safe mode - and do spyware checking.

good advice from hotkee - try also Spybot Search & Destroy. Its free as well.

Its worth having two spy ware programs, sometimes one can pick up things missed by the other.

Then that's your problem. AVG Free is no longer a reliable AV program. Uninstall AVG and install either Avira (free) or Kaspersky (paid for-though you can currently get it free if you use Barclays online banking).

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW')
    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
    UPDATE and FULL SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

I have both these programs installed but for some reason I cannot run either of them, I have even tried running it as administrator, but it never opens.

I'm thinking that I may have to do a full reinstall of windows, unfortunately I don't have a vista disk as it did not come with the PC. Any ideas how I can do a full reinstall?

Have a look in the start menu, there should be an option to create recovery disks.

reboot and keep pressing F8 until the SAFE MODE SELECTION SCREEN pops up

    Select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

    Try running malwarebytes through that
