will put some info from mag on:

says when you have chocolate for instance, your pancreas has to quickly release large amounts of insulin to process the sugar in the system, over time this leads to a rapid fall in blood sugar, yet more sugar cravings, irrability, exhaustion and crankiness as the fuel in your system depletes, says there is no evidence that our bodies have any physiological need for excess suagr.

That also includes white carbs and affects your sleep patterns, so eating more wholemeal, fruit, veg, lean meats and nuts will make you feel fuller for longer, so if say you have pasta and a sweet pudding, you will feel full but few hours later you will get cravings as your blood sugar is dropping.

Giving up sugar will improve your mood and energy and make you lose weight, gives an example of someone who ate boiled sweets and wine gums each day, low in calories but as soon as she stopped eating them she lost 7lbs just by not having them.

And affects wrinkles too, when you eat sugar and refined carbs, such as white rice, bread and pasta, levels of blood sugar remain constantly high, as a result, sugar molecules bond permanently to proteins, including collagen in skin, which makes skin tougher, more saggy and more wrinkles.

    Tips:

take it slow, do it gradual, set reasonable targets each week based on halving your sugar intake until you have none, for example if you have 2 sugars in your tea, reduce it to one etc

Look at your labels, anything ending in ose is another form of sugar

Cut back on foods that give a sugary taste, in any form, overtime you will retrain your palate not to crave sweetness (ooh like i have done lol) any strong, concentrated sweet taste can make blood sugars flacuate making you tired, moody and prone to cravings, if you have sweetners try to have them occassionally and opt for natural varieties such as stevia or agave nectar.

Foods such as apples, berries, bananas and melons are great if you have a sweet tooth as the sugar and carbs are slow releasing.

Swap mid morning biscuits for handful of almonds, which are full of magnesium and fatty acids which can help reduce cravings, dried mango and brazil nuts is also good.

Spices, certain spices are good for regulating blood sugars, cinnamon is the best, sprinkle on porridge or yoghurt, nutmeg, cloves, coriander, ginger and cayenne are also good, it contains a compound that mimics the action of insulin and tricks your body into thinking you have eaten something sweet when you havent.

You may also benefit from chromium supplements if you have sweet cravings, it is a mineral that helps insulin to work and reduce cravings, suggested intake is 600mg

In baking, with the exception of meringue, you can half the sugar in any recipe and it will still work.

lol is that enough info, hope it helps xxx:D

Cg - glad your husband is having a lovely time..I've only read back a little but hope everyone has enjoyed the lovely weather today...DD had her bouncy castle up (she's 3)..it is a bouncy castle at the back, with a slide..she can't quite climb up for the slide yet, so I have to go on it with her..poor little lamb has an ear infection at the moment, and has antibiotics...lots of wax coming out, which does look awful, but guess that is normal..just worrying as she's never really not well..

For those thinking of selling - I've never used e-bay but tend to use the bulletin board at work (electronic) - much easier as it saves posting items out, but I'm lucky in working in a big place...it probably does mean I don't make as much as e-bay though..

A huge thank you to all posters xx

Wow thanks for typing all that out pp - I've saved the post in my favs for future reference. Loads of great advice there. I do eat sweets every day at the moment and I know it's not good for me - but now I realise it's not just my diet and teeth but also my mood and blood too! I'm gonna do that - thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

Best cut down on pasta too then... had that for lunch today actually, love it!

Will check out that site, thanks noname.

Right, best get off to bed then. Want to wake up as a new healthier me!! :p

Night all. See you tomorrow when I'll be back at work. Full week this week after three four-day weeks in a row... could be tough!! Starts with a directors meeting at 8.45am tomorrow morning - they're evil those meetings starting so early on a Monday morning! Anyway, my boss wants to take someone to task on something... should be interesting.

Hope everyone has a good night's sleep. See you tomorrow. xx
