    Hello Purpleprincess

It is quite normal in any situation to loose your motivation at times. And this is just one of those days and times.

Dont worry you will soon pick up and your motivation will return. You just have to keep going and be determined that debt will not beat you.

Treating yourself is so important, it boosts your system to have some 'me time' and you shouldn't feel guilty that it is costing something to do it....we all need a little relief from time to time.

Please help, I want to be debt free of course I do, but at the moment I have lost all motivation :( Everything just seems pants at the mo.

Any ideas or words to increase my motivation??

    Thanks x
It is hard isn't it...I have to motivate myself everyday as I work for myself and its damn hard when I have so much else to deal with and think about, but if I don't motivate myself my debts won't get cleared... keep your chin up you are doing so well.

Absolutely PP I feel so guilty today as I am not pushing myself to get my work done... being self employed and your own boss is not always a good idea!!

  • I know exactly how you feel, I feel really down and confused as to whether we are doing the right thing and we havent even made our first DMP payment, we really dont know how we are going to manage and have been told it will take us 20 years to pay off our debts. Not exactly a future to look forward to.

The one thing that is good is that after this weekend the nights will be lighter (less electricity), we can soon start barbequing (less gas) and on top of that its OH who does the barbques (so less cooking for me). I decided that we ought to try and grow some veg like new potatoes, courgettes and tomatoes and then I would really feel like I was doing something very positive to help.

When you are feeling down one of the most positive things to do is write two lists one listing everything that is good about your life, No matter how small or insignificant to anyone else but ifs it good for you, then its positive. The the other list should have all the bad/negative things in your life. When done compare the lists and I'll bet you anything that there are many more good/positive things than there are bad.

    To start you off:-
    My bad list would be:-

    no money
overweight (I envy those who are slim as clothes always look good)
    no clothes
wear glasses (I envy those who dont)
    getting wrinkles
cant swim (I envy those who can)

    etc
    etc

    Good list:-
    have a job
    have a house
    have a car
    have 3 lovely children
    have a hubby
    have 2 lovely mad dogs
    have nice shiny hair
    I am good at painting
    I am healthy
    live in nice village
    have family, friends, neighbours

so sit down and write your lists, it usually works, let us know

TBH..I've only just realised that because I we feeling down about me (not just about money) that I couldn't get motivated. Now I've set targets in all areas of my life... I moaned about being over weight, so I joined a dance class, and then aerobics.. and now I've entered the "race of life".. I feel so motivated to attend these and do good at it that it take my mind off thinking about money NON-STOP.. I got obsessed with looking at my spreadsheet to see if anything had changed overnight (which of course it hadn't!!!). I needed a focus, or foci??!.. not just about money, but everything... then you'll enjoy everything you do wether it's money related or not!! :D

  • purpleprincess, not only do we all empathise with you, but I hope you know how much you have inspired others. You're tackling your debt AND an addiction, & you're beating both! This isn't supposed to be easy, but it is SO worthwhile.
And in truth, you don't really have much of a choice. Because I don't believe being shackled to debt is a choice at all, its a punishment you certainly don't deserve.
Every one of us feels like you at times. I did every step of the way while I was getting where I am now. I do the same thing as K9cuddles; maintaining my finances has become my hobby, something I *enjoy* rather than something I dread. I dont fear opening the mail anymore, or answering the phone. I keep a spreadsheet that has a chart, & each month I watch the little line go upwards. Once you get to 0 (as youre in negative at the moment) you really can only go UP from there, & my gosh, what a feeling that is.
Good Luck honey, you're doing well.
