even though i'm on the fixed monthly DD, i've actually called them almost every month to change the amounts (when i've taken meter readings so i know i'm paying the right amount each month not to overpay or underpay too much). They do tend to overestimate your usage otherwise, but there's no argument when i've asked them to lower the DD - even when i phone the next month to put it back up again!

I know it's whatever suits .... but isn't that destroying the benefit of evening out the high winter charges over the whole year.

  • I've been with Atlantic for about 3 years. Only problem I had was they estimated my monthly electricity usage too low. I was paying £22 per month for a 5-bedroomed house. After a year I was owe them about £500 and they put my monthly direct debit electricity payment up to a whopping £109! I'm still paying that but hope that it will come down a bit this year.

I also get gas from them and it's all been fine - pay about £55 a month.

I've been with Atlantic (part of Southern Electric) for about 4 months and so far no complaints. They raised their prices on 1 January so I hope the next hike is some way off. They also used to offer a months discount after twelve months for dual fuel DD payment, not sure if that's still on.

Yes the months discount is still on and I didn't even know about it they credited my bank account with £45 and £30 respectfully for both gas and electric!! :j

    Nice surprise :rotfl: last month

atlantic have recently upped my direct debit for both gas and electricity as i was underpaying - fair enough - my months rebate is due in a few months - is this a rebate of the new monthly payment or the old or do they average it out over the year - anyone any idea - thanks

Reference the Quote above. Have you seriously considered whether you need to insure all those items! Would strongly suggest you use the switch to a new supplier to evaluate the cost of the insurance against the probability of breakdown?

I've made use of all the breakdown covers and saved quite a bit of money doing this, so I would prefer to keep them. Unless of course I could save by switching to someone else, but I have to say that British Gas have been really good with the cover.

You get a rebate - direct quote from their site - of your Month 12 Direct Debit.

So, potentially leaves them open to a bit of manipulation! But I suspect they have that covered, as one would have to contact them to increase it to e.g £10k just for that month!

I've been with them for a few years now, and they've continually been the cheapest supplier when I do a comparison. The only hiccup I had was an underestimate just before a price rise, but I just rang in the correct reading. I've saved £100's.

That's fair enough then - obviously suits you. But I asked the question as someone whose appliances etc always break down the week after the Insce expires. So gave up on all but the essentials of house / cars some years ago.

When I responded that Atlantic were OK - I had forgotten about their annual rebate. It's not actually a good thing, as it means you're paying into their little savings club for a year, before you get it back with no added interest etc. The rebate is included in the USwitch etc comparison chart and I do recollect the last time I used that - there was a little caution about the rebate, for the reason I have given above. And bear in mind you lose it if you move supplier / house other than on the anniversary - there is no pro-rata for part years.
Now comes back to me that last time I switched I avoided Atlantic for this reason - and went with EDF as the difference was, in any event, quite minimal.
