Hi, I made a nappy cake a few years ago, wrapped it and never did anything with it. I'm going to rewrap but I'm not sure how much to sell it for, it's 7 nappies, a nice top and a pair of animal pop ons/booties. How much would everyone sell it for?

For those ladies who like the bobble blankets for their nappy cakes, Aldi has them on offer in their current baby event for £3.99.

They also have packs of 3 muslins in a choice of blues or pinks for £1.99.

I noticed today that my local Tesco are selling cup cake boxes. Each box will hold 4 cup cakes, and are being sold in packs of 2 for £2 in the baking aisle.

    Hello,

I've been a lurker for a little while now and the other day decided to have a go at making a nappy cake as a present for a family member and it turned out quite well :). I've been thinking for awhile now about changing my job and I think now's the time to take a leap of faith whilst our circumstances allow me to so i'm wanting to start making them to sell or at least have a go, I'm going to make other things to sell aswell my heads buzzing with ideas and as well doing some other work, hopefully if I can do abit of this and abit of that I should earn enough?! Anything to get out of my office box!! But have a few questions and everyone seems very friendly and supportive so hope you don't mind me asking...

The blankets etc that you use to wrap the layers, do you get these from all over the place, I made mine with Asda ones and was quite impressed they looked good and weren't to bad quality but it did add up to a bit so not very cost effective, so thought I would keep my eyes peeled for sales etc. But when you use these do you leave the tags on or take them off like the paper labels not the care labels and am I allowed to sell stuff that I've bought from supermarkets and shops? I cant get into trouble or anything can I? Also do you use wooden dowels to keep the layers together? The nappies added up to quite abit but I used Pampers size 1 and the baby was very little and used about 80 of these! What nappies do you recommend?

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated, thank you :)

    I always use size 3 nappies :)
I also put any tags i cut off inside of the nappy cake so that they can be found.

If using soft toys on your cake theay must be safe from birth and you must leave all tags on them.

That's a good idea about putting the tags in there didn't even think of that :).

The toys that go on top seem to be quite expensive think I need to do some more research of places to buy them.

Do you think it matters if the stuff you use to make them come from all over the place like mothercare, asda, boots, tescos etc or should it all be from the same place? I'm not sure on how fussy people are. Do I need to say where the items are from when i'm selling them, do you think people will open them and go "oh this is from Asda and tut" if you get what I mean?

Not sure of the rules on selling stuff from shops! Does that sound dumb? I know what I mean :rotfl:

Thrifty- I use things from all over the place as I try to choose items that are the softest/best quality. I do avoid primark though (with the exception of one blanket and one hooded towel I fell in love with).
Your very brave to leave your job to selling gifts, I think there's only a couple of people on here who do that but good luck, I hope you have fun along the way too

I do buy from most shops as well but like Vikki i wouldnt use Primark.
Im also very lucky to but a lot of my stuff wholesale but i dont think there is anything wrong from buying from the high street.
Good luck and dont forget to post photos of your cakes :T
