Bi proudmummy, probably the biggest advice is to:
1. Read this thread
2. Google nappy cakes and have a look at peoples sites
3. Keep an eye out for bargains in the sales etc, clothes, bath stuff, nappies (obviously!)
Good luck

My area must be having the baby boom ...(maybe its something in the water here.). I'm already on cake number 7 since new years eve..
before xmas it was all pinks but we seem to be getting even now.
just had another shop interested so will be up to visit them tomor. fingers crossed for that, and this week i have sent one cake to the other end of the country via courier for the first time. must admit i was on pins for 24 hours until i heard from the recipient that it had arrived safely. Thankfully all was well.
so keep at it ladies the orders will come i'm sure.0 -

Hiya I have not been on here for ages only do cakes now as favours or for people that ask me to make one for them, i love doing them but sadly dont have the time anymore, Xmas eve my oh of 14.5yrs left me with the 5 boys , 4 of the boys are special needs 3 have asd and adhdand youngest has cerabal palsy mild thankfully but they take all my time up now and are my priority.
I did however make this cake for my sons teacher who is due a baby in march , the other teacher asked me if would make one for them to give her so its a £30 cake and ive done it in disney pooh bear , Contents are Pampers nappies £3, Fleece blanket asda £6, Johnsons baby shampoo, cream, softwash and a lotion (inside from poundland each) disney outfit £6 asda, vest I had in as part of multi pack 79p, 2 burping clothes £2, 4 baby bath flannels £1, pooh bear teether £1, rattle £1 , bottle £1 and a cuddly lion toy £1.50 morrisons
never made a profit on it but never wanted to as i just enjoy making them and when got asked jumped at the chance plus its for my sons teacher and she is great , not a very good pic but it came out one of my best cakes.

Lovely cakes! Kates treasures and Hsl500.
So sorry about your news Hsl500, I don't know how you cope with 5 children on your own, let alone the problems that go with.
It's nice that you enjoy making your cakes but I don't think you should undersell yourself - you should make a bit of profit at least. It's O.K. if the cake is a gift from you but I think if someone asks you to make one than you should charge something for your time at least.0 -
