Hi chinesedeli, Wow! that will be some cake! You will have to get a bigger board for the bottom bit.

I use large elastic bands I got from a stationers. They are just thin ones (yellow) but I have never had to buy any more.
When I have got the nappies how I want, I put a band round to hold and then I tie curling ribbon around and remove the band.

Folding Blankets can be quite hard. They are easier if they are square but most are oblong. You also have to think about any motif on the blanket, if it will look right.
For hooded blankets/ towels, lay it on the bed in a diamond shape (pointed motif / hood end nearest you) The motif / hood should be underneath.
Start turning over "nappy height" sections from the top corner working towards you (Hood) It should work so the final turn will be the hood.
You might have to undo and redo several times at different widths to get it right.
I then put a few pins to hold while I wrap it round the cake. Make sure you count the pins so they are all removed.
There is no easy way of folding oblong ones. I do it the same way but start off turning off centre. You could also fold the length of the blanket and wrap and tie at the front with a ribbon. This is best done off centre but it does make for quite a bit of bulk at the front.

Thank you ever so much for your help it is very much appreciated. I have folded all 200 nappys, hope I don't need anymore. Have you got any ideas where I can get square blankets or towels? or any other extra ideas to make it perfect? I would like to put the cellaphane over it when it is finished but again am not sure how to do this x

Busy putting a nappy cake together for my daughters friend, neutral colours and have thought about putting a small cardigan I have knitted on the cake but wondering with it being knitted whether it will be bulky and where to place it. Any ideas ?

Why not wrap it around the front of a tier of nappies. You could fasten it up by tying a ribbon around the middle.

Hi, I'd like to make my sister a nappy cake, she's due to have a girl in 2 weeks. As this will be my 1st cake I was thinking of doing just 1 tier. I have bought size 3 nappies, some wipes, some lotion, some socks, a taggie blanket (might save for xmas?) I still need a teddy and a blanket - is it better to get a plain or one with a motif, hooded or normal? Do I need anything else? I know that I need a cake board but which size?

Does anyone have any step by step fool proof instructions for me? When I've googled, some kind of swirl the nappies in a circle, others roll. Which way is best? As you can tell ANY tips would help me out!

A plain blanket will probably be easier for you to roll to the right size to wrap around your tier if you are doing it for the first time.

Sorry, I don't have any instructions but I always roll my nappies. Just roll the 1st one, secure it with an elastic band, then put another larger band around it and roll a ring of nappies around it (secured by the second band. Keep rolling another ring around until you've got your cake as wide as you like.

I don't use cake boards, I just cut a circle of cardboard to the right size when my cake is finished.

    Hope that helps. xx
