  • Just to let you know tescos are doing little teddies etc for a £1 and hand puppets for £1 which I thought might be suitable for some of your cakes. Its in with their special offer boxes of £1 things.

I am off tonight to get a blanket to try and make my first cake for my nephews christening. Feel a bit mean we are just giving him money so thought this would be a nice way of giving it to them.

Feeling quite dispondant(think thats the word I am looking for?), told one of the mums today about the nappy cake and she had no idea what one was, so explained and she sort of laughed,(and suggested we put the things we have both got into one basket between us(don't want to after spending about £17-£20 on stuff, Am I mean??) so thinking of putting it all nicely into a basket I have. not sure, was quite looking foreward to doing it, but I have another friend who is pregnant later this year so may do one for her instead. oh don't know....
  • Apologies if I'm being thick (normally the case!) but I don't really understand! I thought these were terry nappies folded to look like cakes but now it seems that they are nappies wrapped around cakes? If that is the case don't the nappies get a bit yukky on the icing and doesn't the icing get bits of nappy on it?

I don't really understand the cake things (see above!) but my opinion is that if you want to do one, then you do one!

I get questions like this on a regular basis.

Nappy cakes are infact disposable nappies rolled or swirled to make them look like a cake, if you scroll down a few posts there is a picture of one of my latest cakes, it contains x amount of disposable nappies, a blanket, a burp cloth and a babys vest, here is a picture of a part naked one that I did to give you a better idea. or rather a top view of one I have done.

There is no foodstuffs involved :D and it most definately isn't edible :)

Toochoosey could you not print a picture out and show it to your friend? I reckon you should make one ;) I can guarantee they are always well recieved ;)

i have been really busy recently (gone back to work after having dd2) so havent been on here for a while, but i did a craft fair of sat and did ok sold a few bits but nothing major but lots of people took cards so im hoping something good will come from that.

1 lady did ask if i could do a discount for a bulk purchase as she runs a mother and baby group so fingers crossed!

i would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone on this thread that has given tips and support without you all i would never have started making the nappy cakes.

irlrip, little miss money saver and rusty your cakes are beautiful.
In the end, we decide if we're remembered for what happened to us or for what we did with it ;)

  • Rusty, thank you for that! Now I understand! Although, I wonder if there is a market for terry ones too along with organic baby items?

Toochosey I think stick to your plan, you only have to look on here to see how popular they are! Maybe your friend is embarassed she's not doing something taking a bit of effort? I'm sure your pregnant friend will be delighted you've put so much time and thought into her gift. My friend was happy with the one I did, as I didn't just go out and buy something pink and wrap but had spent time making it all, even if the ribbon was a bit wonky!

I have had it for a while now, I got it fairly cheap from the wedding cake shop in town (proper edible cakes!) she occasionally has fab ribbons at a reasonable price! I know some people sell it on ebay but I seem to remember it being quite expensive!

    Ebay ribbon

There is a seller selling 20m rolls for £6.50 ish
