Turkey - nearly holiday time

Hello All,

Nearly time for my first holiday in three years!! My boyfriend and I are going to Turkey, all inc for 7 nights.

Just wanted to know what everyone thinks is the best thing to with regards to spending money. We are thinking of putting aside around £500 for spending money between us but we are unsure what would be best - change a little currency, say £100 over to liras and take our Halifax visa debit cards OR shop around to make sure we get the best deal and change it all over here in England.

Thanks in advance x

When we went to Turkey we took enough get us through a day or 2 and then changed the rest while we were over there because we got a lot more money for our money over there.

Hope you have a great time,

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain...
  • There are plenty of cashpoints in most major resorts. Do not draw out small amounts as your bank may charge you per transaction, take out the equivalent to £100 per time minimum.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
Does £500 sound about right to you?
Cupcake can you remember what the rate was for changing money whilst you were there?

  • If you like the food at your hotel & plan to do most of your drinking on your all inc it should be plenty. Went to Istanbul at Easter and spent £40 on a bottle of housewine in a non-posh bar. Alcohol is expensive in Turkey as they have to pay huge amounts of tax on it (Even worse than here).

I wasnt aware of that, thanks. It isnt too much of a worry though because its just me and my boyfriend going so we prob wont drink that much. I have found a rate of 2.3564 with Thomas Cook but I also have a vocuher that means you get 1% cashback too.
