Emachines 220 Not Switching On

Bascally shut down my computer as normal on Wednesday night, after i closed it down i turned it off at the plug socket. I never normally turn it off by the plug socket but did on Wednesday. I plugged it back in on Thursday and switched on the power button as normal - problem is that it wont switch back on now. I have checked the plug and the fuses but both of them are fine. The power button is permenantly orange, as if it's on stand-by mode when you move the mouse though it does not start up. I have even tried another mouse but no luck. Emachine want £150 just to look at it!! I've tried again this morning and now i'm not even gettin any power and no orange light on the tower block.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Could well be your power supply has packed in as it happened to me! its very easy to replace, but i am no expert regards if im right or not! A new power supply will be in the region of £20.
Im sure people with more knowledge will put you right!

It cant be the power supply because i've tried the lead in my pronter and that works fine. I've also tried the printer lead in the computer and it still shows the same problem.

You say the power button is orange. On the pc unit? Nomrally this is on the screen. If it is the screen then it means there is no signal going to the monitor.

When you switch the machine on is there any noise from it? Anything at ell.. i.e. fans starting.. disks whirling?

It has started up this morning and started normal then a black screen came on saying ' windows did not start sucessfully ' after 20seconds it loaded itselfs, went on to password screen entered password and it started as soon as it got on too normally screen it just shut down again.

The orange light is still the tower unit, the fan is working and the unit is making noramally running noises.

OK, you've confirmed that the problem isn't caused by the power lead, but that isn't the power supply! The power supply unit (PSU) is a shielded box inside your computer and is quite likely to be the cause of the problem.

Try holding in the power button for about 4 seconds. It should switch off. Then press power button again to switch on.

On another forum site someone has posted with the same problem and they have suggested it could be the PSU or motherboard? How do i find out which one it could be and how do i fix the problem?

    Thanks

Problem with the PSU on a lot of branded machines is that their not standard sizes or fixings for replacement, you may have trouble replacing it.

F T B you misunderstand, the power supply is INSIDE your PC, it could be this, i changed mine (Quite easy to do) and that did the trick for me.
