Very expensive for what I'm after (8 seater, Prague, August).

They want 630 quid for a Merc Vito - I've seen it for £450 elsewhere.

Still, if it works for you ...

    Hi,

I'm thinking of using economycarrentals.com (thanks to a tip from a fellow moneysavingexpert member) for a trip to Cyprus (Larnaca Airport as the pick up point). I think for the prices economycarrentals.com is quoting for a Toyota Yaris or similar with A/C (£98.87) alternatively a Renault Clio or similar with A/C (£110.75) are excellent, especially with a free additional driver for one week. I could only get a Peugeot 107, no A/C with Hertz for £112 with a 10% discount and free additional driver via the AA Member deal, then the Young Driver Surcharge (YDS) is payable locally.

economycarrentals.com states that if a YDS is not mentioned in the additional services section of the booking, then it is not payable. Is this really true? I'm really weary of this because my sister will be an additional driver and she is 22 (I'm 26, so the YDS doesn't apply for me). I really don't want to arrive at around 10pm to discover further charges seeing as we will be facing a 45 mins drive to Ayia Napa.

Has anyone hired a car from Larnaca airport via economycarrental.com? Was the service good with your rental provider?
  • We rented a car from them as it provided the excess waiver included (so no need for extra car insurances). However, when my family arrived at the airport, the local car provider convinced us that there was not extra excess waiver included and made us paid for another one. When I complained to the company, they simply said we should have not paid for the extra waiver, but would not refund it. It is unfair to have local providers convincing you to buy extra insurance that you have already paid for.
    Will never use again!

You fell for trickery from the local provider. Economycarhire are not responsible for that. You should have shown the documentation to the people trying to flog you an unnecessary product and insisted that you were not going to be hoodwinked into buying what you did not need.
