melb wrote:Kathryn - as a matter of interest with Economy cars in spain did you return the petrol tank full? I"ve used Carjet the past 3 years in Spain and been really pleased with them but we had to return the tank empty. We always seemed to still have about quarter of a tank left after the week. I would prefer to return it full. Thanks
Carjet, Economycar, Doyouspain, Argus, etc. are all brokers. The actual car hire companies (Europa, Centauro, Auriga, Solmar, etc.) are the ones who decide if the car can be returned with a full tank. This may depend on the side of the bed the local agent got out of!
In general, hires of 3-4 days can get them to agree to a return 'full' but you usually have to pay up front and then they will credit you when you get back.
There is a rumour that 'Crown' may do it for longer hires, but I think their rates are higher so there is unlikely to be a net saving. Don't forget, the way Carjet, etc. keep their rates low is by using hirers who make a bit on the fuel.0 -
IMHO if you are going to hire a car more than once in a year, or for a long holiday, and not near home, get your insurance from https://www.insurance4carhire.com and the car direct from the provider with the help of a discount code in these forums somewhere.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

All the hire companies I've just mentioned are fully comp (except for wheels, tyres and glass which is only €10-15 per hire).
And I've never found their quotes to be cheaper than the brokers.0 -

Be careful and read all the small print with car hire, you may think you are insured but the excess on some policies can be €750.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
We mentioned earlier about full/full versus full/empty fuel on hires. In Spain, most hires are full/empty but I've just noticed DoYouSpain are offering full/full. BUT, as we said, expect higher rates. For 9 days, they want €135 compared with Argus at €115.0

We booked carjet in Alicante last week because they seemed cheap but I think they make it up on their charge for a full tank of petrol. 85 euros for a week seemed good but then 15 euros extra for tyre insurance and 55 euros for diesel with no option to do fullout/full in on fuel made it seem much less of a good deal.0 -
I booked with carjet this year in Majorca after years of using holiday autos. Felt royally conned about the fuel, especially when we only had a fiesta and the price they charged was for an amount (of which the fuel tank was too small to take- I checked in the owners manual) of super plus unleaded, which the car did not need or benefit from. I reckoned that even if we took the car back absolutely empty they were still making a good 20+ euros extra which really annoyed me. I am just looking at holiday autos at the moment for my next spanish hire as it seems even though they are cheaper the cover is better, which is also what I found when I was hiring cars in australia last month. The cover you get with HA is generally the same as when you pay to upgrade from std cover with other insurers.
Just my 2p :-)0 -
Ah just found what could be a deal breaker with Holiday autos- 5% with quidco! Think I will book it now.0

I have booked a car with Economycarrentals in Spain and I took the car full and I had to return it empty. I have read their conditions and they write that because they are brokers and have many partners and their partners have different policies regarding fuel. I took a car from their supplier Europa Goldcar (very good company) and I had to return the car empty.
I have booked with EconomyCarRentals in Greece too and the fuel policy was different. The car was delivered to me with some petrol and had to give it back the same way.
Generally I was very satisfied with them. I will use them again...0 -
I used them in May in Cyprus the cheapest by far and also great service:D :THi,
has anyone had any experience of www.economycarrentals.com ?
They seem to be very reasonable and apparently charge no excesses at all.
I have booked through www.auto-europe.co.uk for the last five or six trips and highly recommend them. However, www.economycarrentals.com seem to beat them hands down at the moment.
Any Thoughts??
Cheers Folks.0
