Just had a shower and thought of another one - would whoever eats the crisps eat popcorn instead? You can pop it yourself easily on the hob.0

If you don't eat many crisps can you do without them ? You're spending £10 on them and they are just rubbish in a bag really!
Think of the storage space that would free up for other bargains !!Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -

Ha ha true. It's actually £5 for 52 packets so it's not too bad really. OH takes a bag with his lunch, normally pays 40 pence plus each day. These work out at 9p a bag. He can keep them in the back of his work van to free my cupboards :rotfl:Avon Representative October 2010: C16: £276 :T C17: £297 :j0 -

White sauce:- melt 2oz margerine or butter add 2oz white plain flour to the mix then whisk 1 pint heated milik into it to make a white sauce.
To make cheese sauce same as above but add mature cheddar after the milk.
Bulked out mince:-
1kilo of mince(doesn't matter if meat / soya)
2carrots chopped
1 tin of tomatoes
handful of red split lentils
2 onions chopped
2 cloves of garlic crushed
Put in about a pint of water
salt, pepper
Shove in slow cooker on low for about 6hours or on the cooker till it becomes thick but may need more water on the cooker.
I then split this up onto 4/6 meals.
can use the mince to make bolognese, chilli (just add kidney beans and chilli powder), lasagne etc
Potato wedges recipe:-
I tend to make this recipe quite a lot.
Wash and clean about 4 large potatoes, you can use baking ones but its entirely up to you.
Part boil potatoes till a bit soft on the middle.
Spicy:-
2tbsp of oil (any variety)
2 garlic cloves (less / more up to you)
salt + pepper
1 tsp of coriander
1 tbsp of paprika
Mix together and toss potatoes wedges in while still hot
Plain
2tbsp of oil (any variety)
2tbsp salt
2tbsp pepper
Mix together and toss potatoes wedges in while still hot
Now at this point after mixing you can wait till fully cooled down put in tub or food bags then freeze.
Or while still warm put into the oven on a baking tray, gas mark 6 for about 25 mins or till soft in the middle.
Yorkshire pudding / pancake mix
2 eggs
i cup flour
1/2 milk
mix above together
then pur into the heated oil in the yorkshire pudding tray
Can buy a tray for about 75p out of asda

Re the chicken nuggets, i always use those mini breast fillets which are cheaper than normal fillets (altough the chaepest way is to buy a whole chicken but sometimes I can't be faffed).
I then dip them in egg and coat them in polenta so they go all crispy.I then bake them. The polenta is handy as it means yo dont have to dirty a food processor whizzing up breadcrumbs.0 -
i tend to use a victoria sponge tin and make big ones, but you can use a bun tin... for the yourksghire puddings...

Re the washing up liquid - I bought a basics pump thingy (sorry can't remember the correct title) from Wilkinsons (19p) and pour my WUL into this, and just use 1 or 2 pumps depending on the make of WUL I am using. I find that it makes it last sooo much longer than using straight from the bottle you buy it from.
What other supermarkets do you live near? Do you have an Aldi/Lidl or a Home Bargains or B&M? Home Bargains have some greatly reduced food stuffs and if you really need crisps, they are so cheap in there.0 -
Just a tip for the white sauce; if it goes lumpy just put it through a sieve.
And I shop at Mr A, and you can buy the SP crisp 49p for 12 as long as OH doesn't now they are there, they last and it's better than having 30-40+ packets in at once, also my two (3&4) prefer popcorn (made from kernels in the pan), Mr A sells these and they last forever, our last bag lasted 3 years, for about 2 quid I think they are a little more now but it still beats paying 5 quid for crisp0 -
And yet another tip for white sauce. What works for me is I start off by cooking either diced onions or sliced leek in the butter, and then add the flour to that. Having the onions to stick to seems to stop the lumps.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
