Quick tip for your white sauce - warm your milk before adding it to the flour/butter mix - it should help stop it going lumpy :-)

I know what you mean about using the frozen bits but the stuff you can pick up at a local market it so much better! I've ditched the supermarket for all my fresh veg, meat, fish & fruit. Anything else I can get in other shops. The only real reason I go to Mr A (apart from to please dh!) is to get youghurts and thats because i can't be doing with making them too!

Looks like you have a good selection on there

Thanks. I'm hoping I can make curry and soup from my chickens. The mince I will bulk out with lentils (:j) to make chilli, burritos, lasagne and cottage pie. I am a bit naughty buying frozen veg but found that I was wasting a lot when buying fresh

TBH - I've put the lamb steaks, chicken breast and sizzle steak on there and not sure what to do with it (wanna strrreeeetch it). Think I saw it and thought it was a bargain!

Use 2 handfuls of porridge oats and 2 grated carrots in your mince mix - it will bulk it out even more!

You can make white sauce in the microwave if you have trouble with it catching:

    Ingredients:
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    1 cup milk
    salt and pepper to taste

    Directions:
Put the butter in a microwave safe 1 quart bowl and melt on high for 15 to 30 seconds. This may take a bit longer if the butter is ice cold.

Stir in the flour until blended and smooth.
Stir in the milk, salt and pepper.

Microwave on high for about 2 minutes.
Stir and microwave on high for 1 to 2 minutes more or until thickened.

Re pasta sauce. If your little one rejects lumps (my DD is 14 and still hates lumps in her sauces) cook peppers in with the tomato sauce and then blitz with a hand blender.

Now that sound like my type of white sauce! Thanks!

Also you might want to think of ditching the "no added sugar squash" as they are replaced by artificial sweetners. For the small amount most people drink go for the regular squash with no artifical sweetners.

Chicken nuggets are really easy to make, cut up 1 chicken breast into bite size pieces, dip into beaten egg and coat with breadcrumbs (if bread starts to go dry before I can use it I put it in the food processor whizz into breadcrumbs and put into freezer in a freezer bag - hey presto you always have breadcrumbs when needed). Then bake in the oven on a baking tray for 15/20 mins. At least you know they are made of chicken breast and not anything else! Also once veg is starting to look tired in the fridge, I either make into veg soup and freeze or chop and put in freezer in bags to use at a later date. Also MrA sells smartprice spag bol sauce for 36p a jar - it's cheaper to use that than 2 tins of toms and making yourself - I just add a little extra garlic and herbs. HTH

Just to say washing up liquid - keep the empty bottle when you use one up. Pour in half a bottle of new washing up liquid and water it down - promise, you will not notice the difference and it goes a whole way further.

I've tried this and found that I go through a bottle almost as quick as more comes out every time you give a squeeze as it's more liquid.
